Our third annual Excellence Journey Panel 🖤 This year was extra special, an all-women panel. TIFF is such a beautiful, chaotic, and so very full so, holding space like this feels more important than ever. We created a room where truth, vulnerability, and encouragement could flow. Where connection wasn’t just spoken about but actually felt. TIFF is a busy and beautiful time; it can be overwhelming to some. We feel so passionately about providing a safe space during the festival for truthful, vulnerable, and encouraging conversations. I’ve always considered myself an underdog in this industry. For years, I kept my head down, did the work, and stayed grateful for every opportunity that came my way. But to stand here during TIFF 50, to be honoured at the Black Excellence Brunch 2025 as a Rising Voice in Film—to have my production company, @tabiastudios , acknowledged, to hear my credits spoken out loud, to have my work recognized…was truly something I wasn’t expecting or waiting for. I think often we create this monologue in our heads that we’re not good enough, that we’re not doing enough. And then Monday I was forced to sit and listen back to all the things I was being honoured for, and it made me question why I don’t celebrate my wins more often. I know I set my bar very high, always wanting to top my tops. But for the first time, I allowed myself to pause. To be fully present. To feel gratitude for every person I’ve worked with, crossed paths with, and created magic with. To be acknowledged for my work in this way is a moment I will carry forward. It all reminded me that the seeds you plant in silence will one day speak for themselves. I look forward to all the people I’m about to work with, the narratives we’re about to change, the real conversations we’re about to have. The future is bright.. For this year’s Excellence Journey Panel, we’ve partnered with the incredible Chef Philip Nguyen @chefphilipnguyen to curate a menu that matches the energy and spirit of the day. Chef Philip is known for his artistry in the kitchen — seamlessly blending tradition with innovation. With a background in both fine dining and contemporary culinary arts, he has a gift for elevating comfort foods with refined techniques and bold, unexpected flavor pairings. His ability to create dishes that feel both nourishing and indulgent makes every meal an experience, not just a plate. We’re so excited for our guests to not only be inspired by the conversation at the panel but also to be nourished by Chef Philip’s thoughtful creations. The premiere of @morningsidefilm in LA ♥️ What a special moment. Thank you to everyone who came out to support this labor of love. Independent filmmaking is proving to be one of the most fulfilling undertakings of my life. It’s not easy; it takes persistence and faith and an unapologetic boldness. But those are all things that God has blessed our spirits with, so we are equipped and ready! 🙊 I encourage us all to walk in this knowledge that anything is possible.
