Born and based in Mexico City, Miguel Calderón is an artist and filmmaker working fluidly across photography, film, video, sculpture, painting, and installation. A key figure in Mexico’s alternative art scene since the 1990s and co-founder of the seminal space La Panadería, his work uses humor, satire, and absurdity to probe power, myth, and human behavior. His films include La Discípula del Velocímetro, Zeus, and Ajuste de Pérdidas, and he is represented by

In Un Nahual Veracru’, Calderón summons the mythic nahual, a shape-shifting shaman, and places him in the hard-boiled streets of Mexico City, an unlikely meeting of ancient myth and modern life, what could possibly go wrong?
