Sometimes it takes me years to appreciate a painting and after spending a week waking up to this one, it’s become one of my favorites. The longer I sit with it the more meaning and details come to the surface. although it’s a painting I made, concepts and ideas are ever evolving in my world. I don’t think I like clarity, it seems impossible to truly find it on the surface of most things and to pin down a full concept into an artwork seems to keep it alone in that moment rather than allowing it to become an openly interpreted evolving story.
Backstory ~ I went on a foggy hike up a mountain and stumbled across this assertive rock, my nephew said I should paint it. I agreed. I drew the mask to help bring it to life, to cover up its true nature.
This one is for everyone who has asked about my mask charm! I was able to source the very few last ones I could find from Colombia. These are Quimbaya replicas•24k plated•link in bio 🫂
