Attention San Antonio! For one night only. “Luminous 2112”, a really fun audio visual jam with me and @taurindb
Synopsis: an alien species in the distant future finds a roadcase beneath the ruins of SA’d Municipal auditorium. It’s a road case from Rush’s 1976 tour in support of their album “2112”, which describes a dystopian future in which music is outlawed.
The alien species mistakenly thinks “2112” is an actual history of humanity and extrapolates a whole scenario based on this goofy prog concept album.
Our installation is what these aliens imagined. Features lasers reactive to body tracking, an entire book, bizarre videos triggered by a keyboard that you play, and fun. Reconnecting with Taurin’s just da best!!! Dude is amazing.
One night only, tonight, at @theespeesa for @luminariasa . Mr and taurin are a dynamic duo known as @tab_labs
In the basement at CCRMA, the Center for Computer Research in Music and Acoustics at Stanford University. This is where it all started! One of the spots anyway. Honor thy elders. 🖖🙌🖖
Collaboration with @campbelllandscapearchitecture as commissioned by @waterloogreenway for Creekshow 2018. 1100 EL wires controlled by a complex network of custom electronics and an 8 channel overhead speaker array create an immersive audio visual environment, with parameters being modulated by USGS creek flow data. Inspired by the network of waterways and storm pipes that flow through Austin’s urban grid.
Skywave (2017)
👉🤝👈
Commissioned for the 10th Luminaria Festival in San Antonio. We built a geodesic pirate radio station and capacitive control system that allows human touch to scan through over 100 radio stations from around the world since the advent of recording.
It’s Not a Bubble (2015) 👉🤝👈
Interactive inflatable commissioned for the 7th Soundwave Biennial at the Fort Mason Firehouse in San Francisco CA, July 2016.
It’s not a bubble is a pneumatic mylar structure controlled by the oscillations of hacked CPU cooling fans. Touching the conductive surface activates a multi-channel surround speaker system and multiple projectors. Contact and magnetic induction microphones transduce the rustling of the expanding and contracting mylar into sound that is processed in realtime using data scraped from the NASDAQ composite index.
