@annahoji stopped by to help us test the original big honker, the Mamiya RB67, that I rescued from my parent’s house after being in storage for 10 years. This camera brings me back to the Kalamazoo days.
Of course I screwed up loading the first roll of film because I was overconfident thinking I remembered everything, had to unwind/respool it in the dark and was certain some light got in…so was expecting 10 frames of nothing. To get this from it just made my day. Thanks @nell.in_a.shell and @j.krutii for assisting!

Finally cleaned the dust off of this scan and found the corresponding digital shot. Who says you can’t shoot Ektar at night without a cable release? @tyler_franz without your company I think I’d have stayed out there til I was a popsicle. Fully bedazzled.
Despite moving further and further north over the years, 20 minutes from my parent’s house way down on the 45th parallel remains the only time I’ve seen these.

Maman x Nevsky (Bilbao x Tallinn)
This is one of my favorite happy accidents. After years of hiding deep in my desk drawer, I discovered a taped up, partially exposed roll of Lomo redscale film when we were packing up to move from Edinburgh last year.
Curious to see what might be on it, I reloaded it and went for a walk around the new neighborhood once we’d made it to Tallinn.
When I got the roll developed, I couldn’t have been more pleased to see this double exposure of two of my favorite works of art interacting on a single frame. Louise Bourgeois’ Maman spider at the Guggenheim in Bilbao, and the Mikhail Preobrazhensky designed Alexander Nevsky Cathedral in Tallinn. I must have shot half of it on holiday in 2018 and rewound it halfway through because redscale is just not what most people want to remember their holidays in.
Shot on two different cameras, thousands of miles and hundreds of days apart, this photo is nothing special technically but bringing together these spaces feels rare and brings me joy, so I wanted to share.
