As I approach graduation in less than a month, I wanted to reflect on my experience here at Mercer. At first, I thought âhow could this small school in Middle Georgia have such a large impact on my life?â And Iâm so glad I was wrong because I couldnât imagine my life without Mercer. Over the past 4 years, I have learned so much and I wouldnât change it for the world.
To younger Samanta, I am so proud of you for going out of your comfort zone and going through recruitment and joining Chi Omega. Through Chi Omega, I met so many amazing people that taught me a healthy balance between academics and fun. I also met
@henry_kashinthemoney and if you know him, you know he is one of the most kind, patient, hard-working, and determined people that you will ever meet. He taught me that all those things are really important and to use those with anyone you interact with.
Engineering is hard. It will test you, it will make you gray, it will make you cry, and it will make you want to give up. But it is so important that you donât. Classes can be tough and sometimes something needs to change for something to succeed (withdrawing from a class and making an F in a class does not mean youâre a failure - if I can get into grad schools with that on my transcript, so can you!). Mercer taught me to find joy and peace in the midst of chaos and difficult situations.
To senior year me, I am so proud of you. Senior year taught me that it is okay to step away from friendships that donât fill your cup, that it is okay to protect your peace. It also taught me to seek the Lord in ANY situation and when having the choice between giving up worrying and praying, to give up worrying. Senior year taught me that NO ONE has it figured out, no one knows what their next steps are. It also taught me that itâs okay to make friends in your last year.
Thank you Mercer University for bringing me my people. Thank you for pushing me outside of my comfort zone and telling little Samanta in Latvia that she can do anything she sets her mind to. I wish that Samanta in Latvia could see the person that you are today. I am excited to stay here for one more year for my masters!
With love,
Samanta
