We recently received this gift from our friends over at @synth_circle - a strange and beguiling sonic artefact created by the shadowy mountains-lurker, The Callithumpian.
We are told that all sounds in this recording were produced by the Neovit, a bespoke instrument built by The Callithumpian themselves.
The Neovit is an assemblage of motors, magnets, springs and other detritus mostly reclaimed from discarded DVD players, PC's and other e-waste.
This artefact serves to remind us that, in its purest form, Void Observance is a DIY endeavour. The tools of paying Observance are all around.

Next Synth Circle is on Saturday 18 April 3-5PM at the Katoomba Community Centre, 81-83 Katoomba Street.
The plan for this month is fleshing out a concept for a “DIY showcase and workshop” event, tentatively in August.
This month, we’ll start off with a short performance from OG Graeme (@gra3m3ss ), who’d love some advice and feedback from the Circle brains trust. Following this, we’ll have an opportunity for anyone else who’d like to share, followed by a planning session for the DIY showcase, and general synth-shenanigans!

Synth circle is also about helping each other and sharing ideas so if you would like 15 min to present a project you are working on/an idea you would like to discuss or a problem you are facing for the group to respond to please message @maydonpoliris to discuss and make sure we have the tech you need. Like a writers circle with more noise.

Grab your field recorders, cameras, and water bottles! We’re taking a Synth Walk!
Starting from Katoomba, we’ll split the walk in to two stages:
Stage 1, Minnehaha, roughly 30 min walk down for some birdsong, waterfall and trees wiggling in the wind.
Stage 2, roughly 1 hour, the intrepid sound explorers continue on to a substation and abandoned airfield, for eerie power sounds and the sounds of emptiness!
All welcome.
Meet at Minnehaha falls carpark at 9am.

At the session, 7 performers joined together in collaboration, many of them playing together for the first time, to perform an impromptu rendition of a visual score developed for the event by @chris_caines_ .
