Forms of the Unseen After the superb expo “Energia” curated by @benedicte.goesaert and @kathleen_weyts , I was happy to discover a new exhibition at @themerode.brussels curated by @laurencedujardyn A superb group of 50 works spanning from 1960 until present. The link between the art on show is remarkable, great curatorial work by Laurence, who now acts as independent curator in @sybil.project , a curatorial initiative with a commercial purpose, taking place in and outside of Belgium. Happy to share some favourites by Lawrence Werner, Piero Manzoni, Edith Dekyndt, Sophie Whettnall, Walter Leblanc among others. Web:

One day. Four events. A full immersion into art. On April 24th, TheMerode Art Day brings together exhibitions, talks, and encounters across the Club, from the Conference Room to the Conservatory, shaping a continuous cultural experience from 4pm onwards. Among the highlights: the opening of a major group exhibition curated by @laurencedujardyn (@sybil.project ), unfolding around the theme of the invisible. Spanning generations, the exhibition brings together seminal and contemporary artists in a dialogue exploring what resists perception — from conceptual gestures to political realities. A moment where the unseen takes form. #TheMerode #ArtDay

Current show - The Crucial Misunderstanding A solo exhibition by @micheltombroff Curated by Laurence Dujardyn Exhibition dates 17 January → 14 February 2026 Opening hours Tuesday to Saturday, 11:00 – 18:00 or by appointment Address Place de la Justice 27–28, 1000 Brussels “The Wandering Cause”, (2020-2026) « A four-minute video showing a group of children playing on a beach, seen from a distance. The video was shot in 2020 on the Côte d’Opale, in Wissant. At that time, I was reading “Le Perçu” by François Wahl, a critical essay on phenomenology that had a profound influence on my work. The experience of watching these children on the beach helped me crystallise Wahl’s intuition that eventually became the thesis of my book “Le malentendu capital”, i.e. that we first conceptualise the scene as a ‘representation’ before being able to identify all the elements that are presented in that scene. The title of the video, “The Wandering Cause”, refers to the concept of the same name introduced by Plato, signifying that the sensible world (the world we perceive through our senses) partially resists the intelligible—that is, our attempts to make sense of it. The excess of representation is irreducible, incalculable. » Text by Michel Tombroff Edition of 3 + 1AP © Coufo Studio. Courtesy of the artist and SYBIL, Brussels.

Her work 'Oyster' became the cover of his book 'Le Malentendu Capital'; his book then appeared as a loan in her recent Lån exhibition (Kunsthall Trondheim), alongside his bronze-cast mathematical formula. Michel Tombroff and Céline Mathieu’s practices may spring from somewhat similar tensions, yet translate in divergent directions. Touring his new book became a way to invite Céline along, continuing the daisy chain of exchange. Curious about a two-tiered approach to observation and its inherent obstructions, they present recent work—first him with his philosophical-mathematical book, then her with tangled intimate and economic installations. - When: Friday Feb 6, 6:30 pm - Where: The Merode (Place Poelaert 6, 1000 Brussels) - Checkin: 6:30 pm / Talk’s start: 7:00 pm - Reservation required (email or DM). Speakers: Michel Tombroff (b. 1964, Belgium) is an artist and writer whose work explores the dialectics between formalization, representation and the real, particularly where these are the most intimate, i.e. at the intersection of art, mathematics and philosophy. Céline Mathieu (b. 1989, Belgium) is an artist and writer. Her practice is often site and condition specific, using sound, scent, sculpture, performance and text in her installations. The work is both sensory and conceptual. She investigates the circulation of thoughts and materials. Intimacy and economy meet in personal items, and the ties that make up one’s reality. Current show - The Crucial Misunderstanding A solo exhibition by @micheltombroff Curated by Laurence Dujardyn Exhibition dates 17 January → 14 February 2026 Opening hours Tuesday to Saturday, 11:00 – 18:00 or by appointment Address Place de la Justice 27–28, 1000 Brussels “Arnica” (2026)

Six black-and-white photographs of the small fountain located next to Martin Heidegger’s hut in Todtnauberg (Black Forest). Heidegger is the modern philosopher who revived the question of being after it had been “forgotten” since Plato. It was in this small hut that Heidegger wrote his major works, including Being and Time. « In 2020, I built a scale model of this hut (Die Hütte), now in a private collection. I wanted to return once more to Heidegger, by way of this small fountain. In 1967, the poet Paul Celan visited Heidegger’s hut in Todtnauberg. After the visit, and before taking his own life in Paris, Celan wrote a poem entitled Todtnauberg, which begins with the following lines: « Arnica, eyebright, the
draft from the well with the
star-die on top,
in the
Hütte » » Words by Michel Tombroff © Coufo Studio. Courtesy of the artist and SYBIL, Brussels.
