This piece is from the First Night Show of Swingtime Ball. The show features all invited guest dancers of 2025. As the first night of the festival, it sets the artistic tone for everything that follows. The idea behind this show was to present the richness and diversity of Jazz Dance. During the creation process, each teacher brought their own distinct style and voice. Peter Loggins, often called a “walking history book,” acts as the narrator of the evening—connecting different styles and pieces through their historical context, shaping the show into a layered and cohesive whole. Special thanks to Stockholm Swing All Stars. Their dedication and professionalism made a huge difference. Many musical and dance moments were decided live on stage—those spontaneous exchanges, bold ideas, and real-time creativity are exactly what made this show so unique. Oldschool Jazz Dance Music : Variety Boogie by Hadda Brooks (feat Pete Johnson) Performed with the stylish and groovy @jill_dmlnr Within the umbrella of Jazz dance, which covers a very wide variety of styles, dancing without Tap shoes was often referred to, back in the day, as "Boogie Dancing" (quote from an interview with @ryan_francois_jazz ). This is much of what you would see in Chorus line acts and in the soundies of the 1930s-1940s. Frankie Manning even refers to a Chorus line girl called Tranky Doo exiting the stage with a "Boogie Step" which inspires him to create the famous Tranky Doo routine. In this particular routine, I took some steps directly from old clips (the scoop from Bli-Blip, the scoot back from Mabel Lee and the half turn from Block Party Revels) but for the most part I tried to create new ideas and steps with the general imagery of soundies in mind. Jill then added her flair and variations which I in turn, took from her. Performed in Beijing, China at Swing Time Ball 2025. #jazzdance #boogiewoogie #jazz #dance #dancehistory

With only four days to practice, we created something original that felt truly ours. We had no idea we’d end up performing it at Swingtime Ball, the biggest swing event in China! It was Emir’s first couple routine choreographed to an entire song and Wanyuan’s first take on bebop — so we wanted to make it special. So proud of our meaningful work in such limited time, love all the rhythms and vibe. Forever in love with performing… Thanks all the people who made us feel at home during the weekend and gave us the opportunity to perform in front of hundreds of people. China is magical, especially with its soulful dancers. 2025.11.9 @swingtime_ball STB的最后一晚颁奖，� 我坐在有常和南南前面，� 南南获奖，有常在下面为她呐喊，� 有常拿奖，南南也为他欢呼，� 这边颁奖完回来还没刚坐下，�又拿了个别的奖， 再回来再坐下，�眼看着两人泪光闪烁， 还没来及哭出来�又上台拿了一个奖�再回来抱头哭， 哭着哭着又被叫上去拿奖……� 照片的顺序除了封面，我是按照时间顺序排列的，� 那几个瞬间，台上有人疯狂欢呼，台下还有观众跟着抹眼泪的。� 我坐在他们前面，眼看着这两人每次上台之前�像鸟展翅掠过我头顶， 我也来不及构图，盲拍�就是那些情绪跟着一起flow。� 我所记录的瞬间和情绪，也抵不过他们日常练习的万分之一的努力和passion。 BTW� 摇摆舞还在跳，今年最大的兴奋点就是跳舞，� 摇摆舞也在拍，日复一日的日常舞会和全世界无穷无尽的舞会上，拍什么是我最常思考的。� 跳舞有助于思考，今年收获很多感动。� 来不及思考的时候，就拍感动吧。� #lindyhoplove #swingtimeball #moment #winnerwinner #dancechampions #dreamscometrue✨ #championvibes #CLHC #documentaryphotography #blackandwhitephotography #gfx100rf

2025.11.9 @swingtime_ball 来自Alex @alexandremccormack 和Kaiming @kaiming_g 的教科书级的Switch social dance， 忍不住拿放大镜看每一个舞蹈质感。 看了很多遍，每一遍都能发现新的学习点。不得不说，这两人的音乐性真是太好了。 Alex的Slide真是绝啊！twist也怪可爱的！他说他的twist都是Jill教的。 The textbook-level Switch social dance by Alex and Kaiming makes me want to examine every detail of their dance texture with a magnifying glass. I’ve watched it many times, and each viewing reveals new points to learn. I have to say, their musicality is truly outstanding. Alex‘s slide is simply unbelievable! And his twist is adorkably cute!
