Our quick but unforgettable BiĂąan field trip took us on a rich gastronomical, historical, and cultural journey.
The itinerary included a quick visit to Jose Rizalâs school and the historic Alberto Mansion, where his mother, Teodora Alonso Realonda, once lived.
Next up was a tour of the Bulwagang Ryan Cayabyab theater right at the city center. We felt extremely lucky to explore it alongside the Maestro himself (Happy birthday, Mr. C!)
We wrapped up the day with an intimate dinner hosted by Cong. Len Alonte
@lenalonte , where we got to sample BiĂąanâs best culinary delights. For starters, we had classic street food turo-turo featuring fish balls, chicken balls, kikiam, and tokneneng.
For the main meal, our hosts served an absolute feast: dinuguan, lauya, callos, lechon, chicken inasal, crabs, and so much more! I also finally got to try the famous Tudingâs pork chop fresh from the fryerâand it truly lives up to its legendary reputation!
For dessert, I had halo-halo with a slice of leche flan. Call it an odd combination, but we also thoroughly enjoyed some exotic, giant green mangoes (which tasted exactly like the ones I had in Shanghai last year), served with a Bangkok-style salt-sugar-chili dip on the side (thank you,
@stevenaguiat !)
As if the food werenât enough, we were also treated to an impromptu musical performance courtesy of Cong. Len on vocals, with Mr. C himself accompanying on the keyboards!
What an absolute dream dinner.
Before heading out, Cong. Len and Mayor
@gelalonte sent us home with a bag iconic BiĂąan treats. This sweet tooth is incredibly HAPPY! Thank you so much for the warmest welcome! Thanks for organizing this,
