POV: The floral arrangement takes longer than the actual cake,I kid you not. . A whole lot of walking away, staring at it, moving flowers around, and speaking to yourself. . Because every flower changes the entire composition; too much looks cluttered, too little looks unfinished, and one wrong flower ruins the balance. . This arrangement alone took hours of adjusting, removing, and starting over before everything finally flowed together .And then boom… it works . We absolutely love it when clients trust us to create our signature watercolour designs and honestly we might need a whole post dedicated to watercolor beauties . There’s something so timeless and artistic about earthy tones blended with movements and texture. . I was introduced to earthy tones many moons ago by my good friend @ebunfeludu of @kokaricoconuts — and ever since, I’ve been completely drawn to the warmth, calmness, and understated beauty they bring in a design. . An Open Letter to the Amazing Baker Who Recommended Me Dear Big Tabi, This is the second time you’ve trusted me with a client, and each time, I am truly humbled. Thank you for your trust, and for showing that someone in the same profession is not competition, but community. You’ve taken “supporting one another” to another level, and I deeply appreciate it. Indeed, women supporting women is powerful—and something we should always strive to practice. I am truly grateful. When Ade Odunuga turned 50… . No brief. No back and forth. No “can we change this small thing?” . Just pure trust. . In his speech, he said he was surrounded by his core (over 300 guests) — not just attendees, but carefully chosen puzzle pieces of a bigger picture. A reminder that true luxury is in the people. And I thought… omo, that is deep. 🤔 . When I stepped into the hall for the reveal and saw this piece standing tall in a room FULL of luxury… I almost didn’t believe I made it. But I did. . Nothing beats creative freedom, it gives you wings to fly, and a process you get to trust - please see second slide . My client gave me full creative control for her 50th cake… and the reaction? Completely blown away( she screamed in her native language “Funke! Mi o ri ru eleyi ni ori igba e oo, o de ni kin lo si page e”) loosely translated she hadn’t see this design in my page and she was pleased that she handed me creative license and loved that it still felt personal ,especially with the butterflies, she was emotional about it as she wanted to incorporate butterflies into her space decorations - please see 3rd slide . This client has seen me through so many family milestones, at this point I might be unofficially related to them. . Over the last 3 years, we’ve done Dad’s 70th,younger brother’s birthday, her engagement and wedding cake and now Mum’s 70th. . There’s something so beautiful about a client returning again and again, trusting your hands with their family’s memories,it’s like being invited to all the major family events, but as a cake 😁 . Grateful for loyal clients who become family and for being trusted to keep showing up for the beautiful moments. . I loved it that they wanted me to recreate an original design of mine. . POV: You deliver a cake and your village people decided to try and humble you immediately 😭 So there I was… cake looking premium, me looking professional, inner spirit doing soft “you’ve arrived” vibes ✨ Everything was going perfectly… until my client’s niece — God bless the youth and their 20/20 vision — goes: “Aunty… that’s not my uncles name, we are not even Yorubas we are Ibos” ( Tribes from the Eastern and Western Nigeria) … I’m sorry, what do you mean that’s not his name??? I smiled. I laughed. I checked. My peeps…it was in fact NOT his name, I had used the logo design used as example as the charm on the cake😭 At this point, I was in shock, knees gently knocking , couldn’t even think on my feet. Ki ni ma se bayi ( what will I do now) She also ordered 200 pieces of personalised cupcakes which of course are bearing the wrong initials/logo But can we talk about grace? Because my client? An absolute angel. Calm, kind, and completely unbothered. She let me fix it without even a hint of stress. Anyway, crisis averted, lucky I had my assistant of the day Le hubby with me who quickly went round all the tables flipping the toppers to the blank sides, so grateful I didn’t cut corners, all edible toppers were placed on fondant circles. Big shout out the unpaid employee @tosuntubo . Thank you Cake corrected. Lesson learnt LOUDLY. Moral of the story: Spell the name. Check the name. Say the name out loud. Maybe even pray over the name. Thank God it’s Monday ( my favorite day of the week) . .
