Honoured to be included in this exhibition with a couple of my pieces I created in partnership with Roots. Such an amazing group of designers to be included with. The “Always in Fashion” exhibit opens today in Toronto at the Textile Museum of Canada. Thanks Amber-Dawn for including me. 🪶
Opening May 1, 2026, witness where ancestral knowledge meets contemporary fashion design. ‘Always in Fashion’ is an exhibition that highlights Indigenous designers reclaiming cultural narratives, challenging colonial frameworks, and addressing internal community tensions around appropriation. It’s a look at how Indigenous couturiers are reshaping the industry and redefining fashion on their own terms, while recognizing that they have always been the blueprint.
Curated by Amber-Dawn Bear Robe (Siksika Nation), ‘Always in Fashion’ will stand as a celebration of Indigenous design and its profound impact on fashion across the lands we call Canada and the United States. Bear Robe is the Founder and Executive Director of Native Fashion Week, whose projects converge at the intersections of Indigenous art practices, fashion and design.
The exhibition will include Jeremy Arviso (Original Landlords), Jason Baerg (Ayimach Horizons), Himikalas Pamela Baker (T.O.C. Legends), Catherine Boivin, Maggie Catface-Bear Robe, Dorothy Grant, Rebecca Baker-Grenier, Michel Dumont, Korina Emmerich (EMME Studios), Lesley Hampton, Shoshoni Hostler, Brian Jungen, Jontay Kahm, Justin Jacob Louis, Alex Manitoypes (SACRD THNDR), Patricia Michaels, Douglas Miles, Kent Monkman, Benjamin Nelson (Son of Picasso), Randi Nelson, Nonamey, Melrene Saloy-Eaglespeaker (Native Diva Creations), Jaylene Tyme, and Qaulluq (Clara McConnell).
Excited to attend the @cafawards tonight as a nominee for Menswear Designer of the Year! Congrats to all the nominees and thank you to the CAFAs for always showing love. Win or lose it’s an honour to be recognized and continue to bring more awareness of the creative talent that has existed in our communities since forever. Ninaskomin 🪶
A few months back me and @amandamaydaly met to discuss a concept for a shoot based on a theme I had around a dream about the stars and always having our ancestors watching over us even when we can’t see them. Here is what Amanda and Danna created! Such a fun shoot with @dylansoosay ! ✨ A pleasure to create with you all!
