“Reckoning” came out unexpectedly, in the middle of the night. This is a special one. It’s not part of an album, and it wasn’t in the plan for this year. It’s something we felt we had to say. These are the thoughts on our minds and the pain in our hearts when we think about our country, Cuba, what it has become, what we see in the faces of the people we love, and what’s left of the streets where we grew up.
We hope this song sheds light on the ignorance, and sometimes the willful blindness, surrounding Cuba. Most importantly, it’s a celebration of the unity of Cubans, both on and off the island. 💔
“Reckoning” salió inesperadamente, en medio de la noche. Esta es especial. No forma parte de ningún álbum, y no estaba en los planes para este año. Es algo que sentimos que teníamos que decir.
Estos son los pensamientos que ocupan nuestra mente y el dolor en nuestros corazones cuando pensamos en nuestro país, Cuba: en lo que se ha convertido, en lo que vemos en los rostros de las personas que amamos ,en lo que queda de las calles donde crecimos…
Esperamos que esta canción arroje luz sobre la ignorancia, y a veces la ceguera voluntaria, que rodea a Cuba. Y, sobre todo, es una celebración de la unidad de los cubanos, tanto dentro como fuera de la isla. 💔
