How do development and conservation coexist? It can begin with the right team asking the right questions. On #EndangeredSpeciesDay, we reflect on the critical role science plays in protecting vulnerable species. Our #biologists, #ecologists, and environmental specialists work every day to identify, protect, and advocate for the species that share our landscapes, ensuring every project meets its responsibility to the natural world through field surveys, habitat assessments, and Endangered Species Act compliance. When sound science leads the way, development and conservation no longer have to be at odds. đź“· Gopher tortoise (Gopherus polyphemus)

This April, our #SWCAGivesBack and Green Team representatives took Earth Month from coast to coast, with 39 offices across the country organizing 35 Earth Month events! From beach cleanups in Maine and Hawaii to river and stream restorations in Colorado, Wyoming, and Arizona, our employees rolled up their sleeves to protect and restore the natural spaces that matter most. In Chicago, staff volunteered with the GardenWorks Project, assembling raised garden beds and preparing plots for families facing food insecurity. In Flagstaff, our team brought our mission to life at the City's Earth Day Celebration, sharing how responsible energy development and environmental stewardship go hand in hand. Whether planting trees in Las Vegas, removing invasive species along the Rio de Flag in Arizona, or exchanging plants in San Antonio, our people found meaningful ways to give back close to home. Thank you to every employee who contributed your time and care this past Earth Month. Your efforts strengthen the communities we live, work, and protect. #NeverSettle

The Duck River is one of the most biologically diverse rivers in North America. Winding 284 miles through Middle Tennessee, this remarkable #river is home to approximately 150 species of fish and 54 species of freshwater mussels, and serves as a drinking water source for more than 250,000 people. Recognized as a scenic treasure, economic engine, and irreplaceable natural resource, the Duck River is worth protecting for generations to come. To support long-term conservation, we're developing a Habitat Conservation Plan for the watershed. The plan is designed to minimize impacts to covered species, provide long-term regulatory certainty, and identify funding sources and implementation plans for conservation actions. But it’s not just about policy. Our experts are conducting extensive stakeholder engagement, bringing together state and federal agencies, nonprofits, conservation groups, utilities, and recreational river users to help ensure the plan reflects the priorities of those connected to this unique natural resource. Learn more about this project and many more in our portfolio. (link in bio)

Recently, our #SWCAGivesBack teams showed some well-deserved love to our four-legged community members. In Tucson, employees and their dogs marched in the 5th Annual Pets of Pima Parade, raising funds for Pima Animal Care Center through donations and our matching grant. Those funds will support orphaned puppies and kittens, senior pets, and animals recovering from surgery. In Sheridan, our team organized a supply drive collecting items for the local Dog and Cat Shelter, from toys and blankets to everyday care essentials. And in Las Vegas, five employees spent the day supporting SARDUS (Service and Rescue Dogs of the United States), helping set up training trails across urban areas, wilderness paths, and the Las Vegas Strip for some very well-deserving dogs. We're proud to be an #OneSWCA team that shows up for all living things!

There's something remarkable about witnessing motherhood in nature. It's a reminder of the connections that sustain every ecosystem, every community, and every family. On #MothersDay, we celebrate those connections and the mothers in our #OneSWCA family who show up for the people and places that matter most. Happy Mother's Day!

May is Asian American and Pacific Islander (API) Heritage Month, a time to recognize the many cultures, histories, and lived experiences across Asian and Pacific Islander communities, and to reflect on their perspectives. It is also an opportunity to acknowledge and appreciate the individuality within these communities and how they influence our world. At SWCA, our Asian and Pacific Islander Employee Resource Group (ERG) fosters meaningful connection and dialogue, creating space for shared experiences and perspectives that enrich our culture, strengthen collaboration, and deepen how we support one another. This month, through #SWCAGivesBack, the API ERG has selected APIA Scholars, an organization focused on expanding access to higher education for Asian American and Pacific Islander students. With all employee donations matched, we have an opportunity to support efforts that help broaden access and remove barriers. @apiascholars

Joseph Fluder, CEO, was recently recognized for collaboration, innovation, and student-centered support from Illinois State University in their 2026 Commitment to Career Excellence Awards as Engaged Alumni of the Year. An ISU alumnus, Joseph and his wife Shannon support the university through focused, values-driven philanthropy that expands access to education and helps students move from academic study into meaningful careers. Their contributions focus on equity, opportunity, and the importance of preparing students for real professional experiences through the Promoting Equality in the Sciences scholarship and endowment and the Excellence in Geography scholarship. This recognition reflects Joseph's sustained commitment to career development and supporting education, an example of how alumni engagement can create lasting impact for both students and the industries they go on to serve. Let's congratulate Joseph and continue to support #AlwaysLearning and giving back in our communities!

With an estimated 30,000 active oil and gas wells, the Uinta Basin is the heart of Utah’s energy sector. It is also one of the most important paleontological regions in the United States, preserving a rich record of early life within its 12,000 square-miles. For companies operating here, that creates a unique challenge. Projects must move forward efficiently while protecting resources that cannot be replaced. To understand that challenge, we talked to lead #paleontologist, Jason Adams. A former oilfield geologist and “roughneck,” Jason describes himself as “one of those kids who never let go of his love of dinosaurs.” As Technical Lead for the West Region, Jason has extensive experience with environmental #permitting and #paleontology in the Uinta Basin. Read on to learn more about paleontology in the Uinta Basin. (link in bio)

We recently moved up in Engineering News-Record’s Top 500 Design Firms and Top 100 Pure Designers rankings, reflecting continued business achievement and steady progress as #OneSWCA. In ENR’s Top 500 Design Firm rankings of the largest U.S.-based architectural and engineering firms, we ranked No. 93, rising from No. 105 last year. We also moved up in ENR’s Top 100 Pure Designers rankings to No. 78, compared to No. 89 the previous year. This list ranks firms that generate most of their revenue from design services, including planning, engineering, and environmental design. These achievements reflect the work our experts are doing every day and the trust our clients place in us. Thank you to our team for your contributions to helping us reach a new industry benchmark for firm size, growth, and market presence. #NeverSettle @enr.news

When Michelle Weigman joined our team in 2001, our #Marketing department was still taking shape. A small team supported a growing company, and much of the work required a willingness to step in wherever it was needed. Michelle built her career that way! She contributed across proposal design, early website design, sustainability reporting, and internal communications, helping bring consistency to how we showed up as we expanded from a handful of offices to a national presence. Over time, Michelle's work became a large part of our company’s visual foundation. Michelle was drawn to SWCA for a reason. “It was so informal. So not corporate,” she recalls of her first visit to the Phoenix office. “I remember thinking, this could be a home for me.” That sense of ownership carried into her work, where she focused on visual design and creative problem solving, as well as mentoring a growing Creative Services team and becoming a leader in Marketing. Alongside her design work, in the late 2000s, Michelle started the Phoenix Green Team, bringing together a small group of employees who wanted to make #sustainability part of the workplace. What began as a local effort built momentum across offices, contributing to internal programs and important conversations that continue today. 25 years later, Michelle's impact is visible across SWCA, reflected in our brand, our Marketing department, and our culture that has developed alongside her career. #StoriesOfSWCA
