đïž The early sounds of art music merge with contemporary music at Time of Music festival as Continuum XXI (DE/ES) performs on Sat 4th July in the atmospheric wooden church of Viitasaari. đŻïž Performing on Baroque instruments, the ensemble explores new musical horizons much like the composers of the Renaissance and Baroque eras once did. The concert will also feature the world premiere of âsouthwestâ by Lauri Supponen.
đ¶ Continuum XXI actively collaborates with contemporary composers and has premiered numerous works written for historical instruments. In the concert we will hear baroque violin, viola da gamba, recorders, harpsichord, and percussion.

Composer Lauri Supponen has been appointed Composer in Residence for 2026 at the Huddersfield Contemporary Music Festival (hcmf//), the UKâs leading festival of new and experimental music. His works will be performed in Huddersfield this November, including the world premiere of East, a commission by the festival for Eva Zöllner (accordion) and Heather Roche (Bb clarinet). Held annually, hcmf// is widely recognised as one of Europeâs most prominent and respected events in the field.
Finnish composer Lauri Supponen has an international background and career. His works have been premiered by leading contemporary ensembles such as Ensemble Intercontemporain, Ensemble Modern, and BBC Singers at festivals across Europe and North America. Supponenâs artistic practice lies at the intersection of music, dance, visual art, and theatre, exploring the creative potential that emerges between established structures.

In Lauriâs composition ânorth for positive organâ there is weight and intimate massiveness. It could be played for ever, it could be played for all that which will soon disappear or it could be played after everything.
SfÀÀrit premiered 6.2 @tanssintalo@musicanovahel
My 2025 started with a long avaited repeat performance of my piece for chamber choir from 2012 The Dordrecht Humaphone by the stellar @dr_vokalensemblet in Copenhagen. The work takes its name from a drawing by Mikko MetsÀhonkala with text by @lottaviolin .
February will bring the premiere of SfÀÀrit, a dance piece by @anna.k.mustonen and @henriksson.marianna that iâve had the joy to work on for the best part of a year, alongside my colleagues @shivafeshareki and @justina_repeckaite . The premiere is also a rare coming together of two scenes in Helsinki that Iâve been following closely - the contemporary music festival @musicanovahel and contemporary dance festival, @zodiak_helsinki âs Sidestep Festival.
@musicanovahel will also show the film LOKS - four concerts at once, a very special project where 4 festivals performed 4 quartets by 4 composers through the summer of â24, designed from the start to be edited together as a film by the legendary young latvian filmmaker @tomsharjo . The premiere, organised by @festivalssansusi was in Riga last fall - Iâm very happy that the second showing is in Helsinki at the @cinemaorion .
Excited also to perform at @katvekatvekatve towards the end of the month.
Hope to see you at one or all of these, if youre in town!
Marianna Henriksson & Anna Mustonen: SfÀÀrit 6.-8.2.25 đȘ Dance House Helsinki, Pannu Hall

Chords collapsing into one another, the movement of dust, a swelling organ sound, and the cosmic intervals of a meantone tuning system intertwine with centuries-old ideas about the harmony of the spheres â the sound produced by the movements of the universe and its vibrations in smaller units of nature, such as the human being.
In the performance, the dance immerses itself in the experientiality opened up by the music, gathers and expands, leaving space until it condenses, presses in, and fades into the air. The dance curls towards the intimate, expands into the environment, forming wondrous patterns and slight yet remarkable movements.

Paris, my home for the past 3 month, is a town that nurtures flowing through just as much as growing from.
Tonight me and my esteemed colleague @mikkosarvanne are debuting as a bass oboe and modular synth duo at the open studio night of @citedesartsparis . Let our concert be a moment of spiraling through our creative journeys both together and each in our own minds during these last three months!
I always dreamed of discovering the bass side of the oboe family - with its rich, rare and archaic sound. Being originally developed in Paris, its a joy to be surrounded by here by a hitherto unestablished undergrowth of the instrument, as imagined by VarĂšse etc. Its been an instrumental, musical home for me here. A home-tree with which to breathe.
