đŸ›ïž The early sounds of art music merge with contemporary music at Time of Music festival as Continuum XXI (DE/ES) performs on Sat 4th July in the atmospheric wooden church of Viitasaari. đŸ•Żïž Performing on Baroque instruments, the ensemble explores new musical horizons much like the composers of the Renaissance and Baroque eras once did. The concert will also feature the world premiere of “southwest” by Lauri Supponen. đŸŽ¶ Continuum XXI actively collaborates with contemporary composers and has premiered numerous works written for historical instruments. In the concert we will hear baroque violin, viola da gamba, recorders, harpsichord, and percussion. 👉 Read more about the programme from the link in bio! *** đŸ›ïž Taidemusiikin varhaiset sĂ€velet yhdistyvĂ€t aikamme musiikin kanssa Musiikin ajassa, kun Continuum XXI (DE/ES) konsertoi la 4.7. Lauri Supponen @svppis traces vast ideas back to the smallest of turning points—where a tree falls, a line is crossed, a direction quietly shifts. His music, including ‘Ave Maris Stella’, ‘Picea’, and the new work ‘east’ (all at hcmf// 2026), unfolds from overlooked histories and fragile geographies. From Alpine spruce forests to Renaissance echoes, from NASA’s hidden figures to imagined sonic ecosystems, Supponen finds connection in unlikely places—where past and present, science and myth, all begin to blur. An oboist, double bassist, and composer, his work moves between the tactile and the conceptual: garden-hose instruments meet Gabrieli chorales; violin histories grow from trees; directions fold in on themselves until east becomes west. Supponen’s music reminds us that the smallest shifts—a detail, a decision, a moment—can carry consequences far beyond themselves. ‘The further east you go, the more west there is.’ Read more at the link in our bio. In Lauri’s composition ’north for positive organ’ there is weight and intimate massiveness. It could be played for ever, it could be played for all that which will soon disappear or it could be played after everything. SfÀÀrit premiered 6.2 @tanssintalo @musicanovahel

My 2025 started with a long avaited repeat performance of my piece for chamber choir from 2012 The Dordrecht Humaphone by the stellar @dr_vokalensemblet in Copenhagen. The work takes its name from a drawing by Mikko MetsĂ€honkala with text by @lottaviolin . February will bring the premiere of SfÀÀrit, a dance piece by @anna.k.mustonen and @henriksson.marianna that i’ve had the joy to work on for the best part of a year, alongside my colleagues @shivafeshareki and @justina_repeckaite . The premiere is also a rare coming together of two scenes in Helsinki that I’ve been following closely - the contemporary music festival @musicanovahel and contemporary dance festival, @zodiak_helsinki ’s Sidestep Festival. @musicanovahel will also show the film LOKS - four concerts at once, a very special project where 4 festivals performed 4 quartets by 4 composers through the summer of ’24, designed from the start to be edited together as a film by the legendary young latvian filmmaker @tomsharjo . The premiere, organised by @festivalssansusi was in Riga last fall - I’m very happy that the second showing is in Helsinki at the @cinemaorion . Excited also to perform at @katvekatvekatve towards the end of the month. Hope to see you at one or all of these, if youre in town!

Marianna Henriksson & Anna Mustonen: SfÀÀrit 6.-8.2.25 đŸȘ Dance House Helsinki, Pannu Hall đŸȘđŸȘđŸȘ Chords collapsing into one another, the movement of dust, a swelling organ sound, and the cosmic intervals of a meantone tuning system intertwine with centuries-old ideas about the harmony of the spheres – the sound produced by the movements of the universe and its vibrations in smaller units of nature, such as the human being. In the performance, the dance immerses itself in the experientiality opened up by the music, gathers and expands, leaving space until it condenses, presses in, and fades into the air. The dance curls towards the intimate, expands into the environment, forming wondrous patterns and slight yet remarkable movements. đŸȘđŸȘđŸȘ Assembling and concept: Marianna Henriksson, Anna Mustonen   Harpsichord, positive organ: Marianna Henriksson, Petteri Pitko   Dancers: Anna Maria HĂ€kkinen, Mira Kautto, Marlon Moilanen, Anna Mustonen   Choreographer: Anna Mustonen   Composers: Shiva Feshareki, Justina Repečkaitė, Lauri Supponen   Dramaturge: Masi Tiitta   Lighting designer: Meri Ekola   Materials of the space: Piia Rinne   Sound designer: Markus Heino Administrative coordination and conceptual dialogue: Riikka Thitz / i dolci  Production: i dolci, Zodiak - Uuden tanssin keskus, Musica nova Helsinki Supported by: Alfred Kordelin Foundation, Arts Promotion Centre Finland, Finnish Cultural Foundation, Lithuanian Culture Institute, Teosto   Musica nova Helsinki has commissioned the composition by Justina Repečkaitė with the support of the Ernst von Siemens Music Foundation.   In collaboration with: rendezvous ry   Residencies: EhkĂ€-production / Contemporary Art Space Kutomo (Turku), Greta and William Lehtinen Foundation (Helsinki) SfÀÀrit (Spheres) is part of the activities of the interdisciplinary association i dolci and is featured in the programmes of both the Side Step 2025 contemporary dance festival and the Musica nova Helsinki contemporary music festival. Paris, my home for the past 3 month, is a town that nurtures flowing through just as much as growing from. Tonight me and my esteemed colleague @mikkosarvanne are debuting as a bass oboe and modular synth duo at the open studio night of @citedesartsparis . Let our concert be a moment of spiraling through our creative journeys both together and each in our own minds during these last three months! I always dreamed of discovering the bass side of the oboe family - with its rich, rare and archaic sound. Being originally developed in Paris, its a joy to be surrounded by here by a hitherto unestablished undergrowth of the instrument, as imagined by VarĂšse etc. Its been an instrumental, musical home for me here. A home-tree with which to breathe.

First single of my second album ’Dwell’ out today! I wrote Gaz aux Ă©tages in 2016 as a love song to the house in Brussels I grew up in. Two years ago we arranged it for viola d’amore with Marco Fusi, who will be playing it in @hcmfuk in Huddersfield today 20.11 on the release day. Very happy to share this work - the first one I wrote after a year-long break from composing in 2015-16. Stay posted for the rest of the album in early spring!
