After two years defined by constant change and new challenges, it finally feels as though everything is coming full circle. I have a profound sense that 2026 will be my year.
The time has come to channel the experiences I’ve gathered into new projects. My studio will be the place where these visions take shape. I am looking forward to the upcoming work, the creative energy, and above all, the encounters with the people who will enrich this journey. There is an immense sense of anticipation for everything that is about to unfold.
Sven Dirkmann’s Collages
Back in 2023, I visited the artist’s studio at Kunsthaus Essen, and yet, years later, I still have things to show you. An impressive part of his production lies in his collages—most of them predominantly in black and white. Clean cuts, stairs, everyday spaces, all carrying a particular twist: small details within the images connect to the sensation of being found within a senseless or suspended ambience.
Previously, Dirkmann worked within the field of photography, which provided him with a particular ability to compose images and appreciate tiny details—the beauty of the particular—and an ease in creating. In the end, photographic practice only gave him a stronger urge to move beyond plain depiction and go further than the paper itself, creating through clay, threads, or found objects.
Everything is approached with a childlike gaze, reflecting on the uncanny sensation of the unknown: a feeling of being safe while allowing a wild imagination to unfold—where something might frighten you, yet art conquers and tames it through a strange, quiet beauty.
