Wisdom from my dad today. He was an esteemed psychiatrist and this is my favourite of his gems: Don’t let the dickheads get you down.
I’m adding the inner dick bit. We all have that critical shitty voice that pipes up from time to time. No one is immune. It’s not who you are. It’s not the truth. You don’t have to silence it. We can change our relationship with it and pass the mic over to our inner elder - we all have one of those too.
If you’re not as accustomed to the voice of the inner elder, scroll through my posts and you’ll get a flavour for her tone and word choice. She uses lots of terms of endearment and she has your best interests at heart. She cares about you and she’s here to remind you that you are someone worthy of that care - the care of others and your own.
I hope you feel that when you visit my page.
Come whenever you need a warm hug.
You are deeply deserving.
All the love,
Suz x

How quick society is to label women who prioritise self as selfish… but have you noticed how swiftly women are to judge other women in this way? It’s time to take a look at our relationship with the word selfish and our understanding of what it means to be a “good woman”.
I loved talking with @byrebeccalewis for this galvanising peice in @allbright about why we’re so phobic of being seen as selfish and why we revere selflessness so much. It’s time to change the narrative - the opposite of selfless isn’t selfish, it is boundaried. Time to give ourselves, and other women, the right to let their own hopes and dreams shape their lives. See the link in my stories to read the full piece and start living like you matter too.
I’d love to hear your thoughts on this piece. @tessdaly I applaud your self-honouring. Wishing you a delicious chapter ahead full of your choosing. It’s not selfish it’s self-advocacy.

It’s mental health awareness week and we’re getting clear on emotional health here, because how we understand emotions has an impact on mental health too. What we’ve been told about emotions - what’s ok to express, what’s not ok to feel - does us real harm.
Which one lands for you? Any other untruths you’d like to acknowledge? I’m here for it!
One more thing to add… please validate all your feelings but know that they’re not always the gospel truth. Use your discernment to check in. For example, please validate the experience of anxiety but check to see whether the perceived threat is real. Similarly, the presence of guilt doesn’t mean you have transgressed your moral code. You get to decide.
Use your emotions as clues as to what you need to feel safe and healthy. You have a right to feel them all, darling and don’t be hurried back to being calm, quiet, happy, amenable. That’s just being shut down.
Wishing you all the space and grace to feel.

I hope you find this one LIBERATING! You don’t just have to think your way out of mental health challenges. Mental health is not something that just happens in your head. Maybe you don’t need a new coping tool - maybe you need a hug! Maybe you need a tall glass or water. Decent sleep. Movement. Nature. A break from screens. Hand on help. Remember: people need people and ALSO people NEED TO BE NEEDED. It’s ok to lean on other people. Mental health is a function of how well supported we are.
I have so enjoyed challenging common perceptions about mental health this week. Two more posts to come. Stay tuned for an exploration of emotional health and my 3 daily mental health non negotiables.
Warm hugs,

“Mental health is all in your head. You just have to think your way out of it. Just try harder. Be more positive.” These are things I hear all the time in my consulting room. Yes, there are fantastic cognitive tools that can help us make sense of life but supporting mental health is not limited to how we think.
Being a Chartered Psychologist, yoga teacher and personal trainer has given me not only a unique understanding of mental health but a broad toolkit in nourishing mental wellbeing. I hope these slides broaden your perspective on the action you can take to promote mental health.
And let’s also clarify the action we need to feel healthy - it’s two fold. We need to take care of ourselves and we also need to be cared for. How we navigate our thoughts and feelings is a function of how well resourced and how well supported we are. We all need the love and support of other people.
Hope these conversations during this year’s mental health awareness week are helping. A few more thoughts to come on emotional health, resilience and coping, and wellness itself. Let me know if there’s something you’d like me to explore. Happy to go where it’s useful to you. Drop me a comment or a dm and I’ll take a look.
Warm hugs,
Suz xx

Comment “Suzy” and I’ll DM you the episode 🤍
“I remember looking in the mirror after giving birth… and thinking, how are you supposed to look after a baby when you feel like such a baby yourself?”
This conversation with author Suzy Reading was such a powerful reminder that so many parents are quietly struggling in those early days - overwhelmed, emotional, exhausted and wondering if they’re doing any of it right.
Her words about needing tenderness, reassurance and support after birth really stayed with me. Because sometimes what new parents need most isn’t advice… it’s someone saying:
“You’re not failing. This is hard. And it won’t feel this way forever.”
If you’re in the thick of early parenthood right now, I hope this episode makes you feel a little less alone 🤍

What your thoughts really say about you…
NOTHING! Your thoughts say absolutely zero about who you are as a human being. You get to choose what you invest your identity in. Choose wisely my friend and don’t let your brain beat you up with random thoughts. Affirm your identity with supportive self-talk.
Stay tuned for more calming content and please share if you found this one helpful. I hope my posts are showing you where you can take action to boost your mental health and where you can stop trying so hard - the energy we free up is huge!
We’re all walking the path together. Side by side.
