“Yearn”
This piece embodies the tension between outward
composure and inner longing. The subject appears calm and poised, yet the eyes reveal a deep yearning to be seen. The contrast of dark charcoal against the soft highlights adds to the emotional weight, emphasising the silent struggle of holding back emotions while craving recognition.
Back in late July last year, I attended a week-long workshop at Samsara Academy of Art @samsaraacademyofart under Ivan Loginov @loginovart@loginovstudio . Each of the five days, working three hours from life, felt completely new — no moment was the same. It taught me to loosen up and truly create.
If you swipe through the images, you’ll see how the artwork gradually unfolded — evolving a little more each day. I continued refining it afterward, adding red tones to express the intensity of emotion I felt at the time. I’ve been holding back from sharing this one — no time ever felt right — but here it is now. I hope it resonates.

It was going well, and I got worried I might lose everything I had built.
But something in me wanted to see what would happen if I stopped holding back.

It’s been a few months since I started painting, and with each portrait I do alla prima during our extra sessions at @samsaraacademyofart , I’m trying to develop a process that helps me reach the result faster. I’m still exploring different approaches, but my goal is to be able to finish a portrait painting within 45 minutes.
