Money is one of the most misunderstood parts of the surrogacy conversation.
In this episode, @hello_kayde and @charlotteramberg15 talk openly about why compensation sparks so much debate, how quickly it becomes the focus from the outside, and what gets lost when surrogacy is reduced to a dollar amount.
This conversation isn’t about pretending compensation doesn’t exist. It’s about naming why the money question feels so controversial, and why it rarely captures the full scope of what surrogates carry, contribute, and navigate along the way.
While We Carry is a conversation series between two surrogates, with each topic unfolding across three episodes. Coming next: “It Must Be So Easy to Become a Surrogate”
Save or share if the money conversation around surrogacy has ever felt uncomfortable, confusing, or incomplete.
One of the most common things people say to surrogates is: “You’re giving your baby away.”
In this conversation, two surrogates talk about the misconceptions they hear all the time in their own circles and why it matters to name them and bring more awareness to surrogacy.
Meet the surrogates in this conversation:
✦ Kayde (@hello_kayde ) — 2x surrogate, birth worker, and owner of @surrosupport currently on her second surrogacy journey, with lived experience supporting families through pregnancy and birth.
✦Charlotte (@charlotteramberg15 ) — 4x surrogate, owner of @cherokeerosecc , and perinatal mental health professional, currently on her fourth surrogacy journey with the TSF 2024 Grant Winners while raising her own family, bringing both personal experience and clinical insight into the conversation.
This is the first episode in our three-part topic on surrogacy misconceptions.
Coming next: “Just in It for the Money” and “It Must Be So Easy to Become a Surrogate”.
I’m simply not missing a Jon Hamm trend❤️🤴
✨ Uterine lining check…like the cozy home inspection before embryo transfer ✨
Think of your endometrium as the world’s tiniest luxury Airbnb suite.
During monitoring, your doc will be looking for:
🛏️ Thickness (usually 7–12mm = chef’s kiss for most clinics but don’t panic if you’re slightly outside this!)
🌈 Triple-stripe pattern (aka the gold standard of “Come on in, little emby!)
💧 Good blood flow (because every VIP guest needs room service)
And when they give you the all clear that lining is ready and it’s go time for transfer? ✨🤌🪩
Did your agency and/or clinic help explain this before transfer? If not, you may need the helping hand @surrosupport has to offer 🤝

✨ POV: Your induction feels less like a medical procedure and more like a girl’s day because your doula showed up.
Honestly if it doesn’t come with dancing, I’m not sure I even want it?
Because if the rest of your journey didn’t feel cold, clinical, or isolating—then why on earth should the birth? The right support person can completely shift the atmosphere. A doula brings grounding, comfort, reassurance, and a sense of we’re in this together, even when the process feels long or unpredictable.
Did you know Surrogate Support offers expert *traveling* hands-on birth & postpartum doula concierge services for the entire surrogate-parent-baby triad? We believe every birthing person AND intended parent deserves to feel seen, supported, and emotionally held through every phase of their journey—whether that’s a spontaneous labor or a fully scheduled induction…. You don’t have to do this alone.
Here’s to turning medical moments into confidently empowered ones✨💛
Drop a 💬COMMENT💬 if your doula made your experience feel more grounded and supported (twerk-worthy, if you will) or if you WISH you would have had one! I’d love to hear your story ✨

When a woman decides to carry life for another, she’s not giving up power…she’s redefining it.
Surrogacy is feminism lived out loud: informed, intentional, and fiercely autonomous. 💛

I’ve worn a lot of hats over the years… but all from the same store, if that makes any sense? 🤠
The somewhere-in-me thing that pulled me to teach, to doula, to medical care… is the very same thing that made me think carrying a baby for someone else could be a cool idea. The same thing that showed me I have a valuable voice in this space. And that I could create my own brand of heart-centered work serving the women and families I fell in love with so long ago.
Cheers to @surrosupport in its infancy year and to many, many more years of learning and passion fueled “work” to come ✨

Hello 👋 I’m Kayde.
Founder of Surrogate Support and professional hype girl. Birth doula for over a decade who fell in love with the special brand of intentional family building in the IVF space 🍍
I’ve been in the delivery room holding space for countless parents, helped hundreds of surrogates navigate this wild journey, and built a business dedicated to making family building the heart-centered, supported, and empowering experience it deserves to be. 💕
I’m 33, a mom of 3 wild things, an egg donor x5, and currently 12 weeks pregnant on my second surrogacy journey myself. So when I say, GIRL I’VE BEEN THERE, I mean it ✨
If you’re new here and ready for real talk, big heart, and a heavy dose of women doing whatever the f they want… welcome friend 🫶
Surrogate concierge. Surrogacy support group. Infertility support. Surrogacy matching. Birth doula. Surrogacy doula.
Did you know last year I was so discouraged by what I was seeing in the surrogacy space that I almost left for good?
Almost left an industry I LOVE working in?
Almost left behind what has undoubtedly been my single driving passion, the thing I’ve worked to make bigger than myself for the past 8+ years?
Something I’ve learned recently is that the right choice is often the hard one, the one that asks you to step out in courage.
And so here I am, ready to step out with the little project that has been… gestating, if you will, in the most good and hopeful parts of me for some time.
Surrogate Support is about filling in every gap I’ve felt in our community. Surrogates (and intended parents) deserve accessible, authentic, and honest professionals who can meet and walk this path alongside them.
No gatekeeping. No judgment.
Just the kind of unwavering, heart-led guidance I’ve worked to bring every surrogate and intended parent I’ve ever worked with.
Surrogate Support is here to make sure no one walks this journey alone—whether that means education to empower you, resources to guide you, or a steady, experienced hand when the road feels overwhelming.
We’re rewriting what support looks like in surrogacy. And I’m so grateful to finally share it with you.
✨ Here’s to building the kind of community we all deserve. Follow along @surrosupport ✨

✨Legal doesn’t have to be a headache✨
From travel limits to bed rest and those often awkward $$ convos—here’s your reminder that clarity now = fewer surprises later.
Let’s get ahead of the paperwork and protect your peace 🧘🏻♀️💜
