A 1.2-metre car splitter used to be a five-piece job: print, sand, glue, sand again, repeat. Now it prints as one. Our new large format printer (1.2 x 1.2 x 1.6m build volume) is the largest FDM build envelope of any UK service bureau. Automotive splitters and aero parts, vacuum forming bucks, trade show props, large manufacturing jigs, full-scale concept models. Anything that doesn't fit on a normal printer. PLA or PETG. One part, no bonding, no rework. If you've been splitting big parts to fit other people's machines, send the file. We'll quote it as one. /3d-printing-services/ #LargeFormat3DPrinting #FDMPrinting #UKManufacturing #Automotive #3DPrinting

We get this question more than any other: "Which material should I use?" It usually comes before the question that should come first: what does the part actually have to do? Temperature, environment, load, finish. The material follows from those answers, not the other way round. A 9-slide guide for anyone briefing a 3D printing job. surfacescan.co.uk/3d-printing-services/ #3DPrinting #Materials #Manufacturing #Engineering #ProductDesign

A lot of the people who call us don't have a CAD file. Some don't even have a sketch. They've got a problem and a rough idea of what would solve it, and they want to know if that's enough to start. Until last year, the answer would have been no. We were set up for parts that already existed: objects we could scan, files we could print. Toby joined as our product design engineer. Now we can take a project from "I've got an idea" all the way to a working product, in-house, end-to-end. If you've been carrying an idea around and haven't found anyone willing to start from scratch, we can. /solutions/product-design-development/ #ProductDesign #3DPrinting #UKManufacturing #Engineering

Something that never shows up on our invoices. 3D printing is a finicky process. Prints fail, parts warp coming off the bed, first layers don't stick, bridges sag. When something doesn't come out right we reprint, test different profiles and orientations, maybe try a different slice setting or a different machine. We don't charge for it. We don't flag it either. The part just arrives as it's meant to look. You're paying for a quality part. That's what you should get. /3d-printing-services/ #3DPrinting #ManufacturingUK #QualityControl #SurfaceScan #PrintFarm #FDM #SLS #UKManufacturing

We took the scanner into Wienerberger, the UK's largest brick manufacturer. The job was a textured roller used to add finish to their bricks. Mobile scanning means we bring the equipment to the part, not the other way around. Useful for things you can't take off the production line. If you've got something at your facility that needs scanning, we can usually come to you. /3d-scanning-services/ #3DScanning #MobileScanning #Manufacturing #ManufacturingUK #SurfaceScan #BrickManufacturing #UKManufacturing #FactoryScan #InspectionScanning

Our product design service runs in three phases. You can do the whole thing end-to-end, or just the stage you need. Phase 1: Discover & Define Market and patent research, feasibility checks, sketches, concept models, and basic CAD with visualisations. Good if you've got an idea and want to know whether it's worth developing. Phase 2: Design & Develop Refined CAD, materials and finish selection, prototyping for user testing, clearance and fixture design. This turns a concept into a working product. Phase 3: Deliver & Scale Design for manufacture, technical documentation, and batch production. In-house or via our trusted UK partners. This gets a working product ready for manufacture. The full three-phase run takes an idea through to a manufacturable product. You can also come in for a single phase if you've done the earlier stages elsewhere, or only need help with part of the work. If you've got a product idea at any stage, worth a conversation. /solutions/product-design-development/ #ProductDesign #ProductDevelopment #Engineering #ManufacturingUK #SurfaceScan #CAD #UKEngineering #Prototyping

New PLA colour in the range. Bone White. You've been asking for an off-white tone. We trialled it on a Natural History Museum job. People have been loving it, so it's here to stay. A warm off-white between pure white and standard cream. Same price and turnaround as any other PLA. Now alongside Black, Grey, White, Blue, Green, Orange, Red, Yellow and Clear. What other colours or materials would you actually use? /3d-printing-services/ #3DPrinting #PLA #Materials #ManufacturingUK #SurfaceScan #3DPrintedPLA #PrintFarm #UKManufacturing

0.020mm accuracy — roughly a third of a human hair's width. That's what our NimbleTrack scanner achieves under optimal conditions. But not every job needs it. If you're creating a display model or the part will be hand-finished, you don't need sub-millimetre precision. Tell us the tolerances you're working to and we'll make sure you get the results you need. surfacescan.co.uk/3d-scanning-services/ #3DScanning #Engineering #Metrology #Manufacturing #SurfaceScan #NimbleTrack #UKManufacturing #Precision

23 custom safety attachments for a vehicle wrapping specialist in Dover — designed from scratch because nothing off-the-shelf existed. Scanned the heat gun for exact geometry. Designed a protective nozzle shroud. Prototyped multiple versions with the client. Final parts in black PETG, rated for 70°C. First run: 23 units, now used across their full operation. surfacescan.co.uk/heat-gun-safety-attachment/ #ProductDesign #3DPrinting #ManufacturingUK #SurfaceScan #CustomParts #PETG #AdditiveManufacturing #Engineering
