Series 1, Episode 1 — The Roastery
Welcome to the heart of Surface Coffee. A tranquil space in the middle of a busy world. A place built around the rhythm of cafe culture
Today marks a milestone: our 1,000th roast of the year. Every roast completed with passion, and every new customer who walks through our doors becomes part of the community we’re building.
We appreciate you.
Something big is coming.
Something that will redefine how coffee is sold.
And it all starts right here.

@surfacecoffeeroasters is on a mission to become the UK’s first zero single-use roastery.
Their story began with a small coffee business operating out of a beachside van. After five years of fast-paced growth, Brandon and Daisy shut down their previous company and returned to their roots, focusing on roasting exceptional coffee, connecting with others, and finding balance in life.
Now, they sell freshly roasted coffee out of stainless steel canisters, eliminating over 45,000 single-use coffee bags from circulation.

Introducing Lanow, a beautifully simple coastal setup in West Pentire overlooking Crantock Bay.
Built from the ground up (literally, from a converted horse box), Lanow is all about slowing down, connecting to place, and doing things well. With a deep care for quality and service, it’s exactly the kind of space we love working with.
They’re brewing our Mahalo House Blend a smooth, balanced cup with notes of hazelnut, oat, pecan & clementine and serving it with intention, every time.
With sea views, fresh air, and a new sauna space joining this season, Lanow is becoming more than just a coffee stop. It’s a place to pause, reset, and enjoy good coffee in good company.
Stoked to have them as part of the Surface family 🌊
Meet Josh
Josh is the newest face at Surface Coffee and your go-to caffeine dealer at our Newquay roastery (open Monday–Friday, 9–5).
A professionally trained barista, Josh completed his SCA training in London before making the move to Cornwall for a slower pace of life with his partner, while continuing to do what he loves most: coffee.
Before coffee, Josh worked as a construction surveyor, bringing with him a sharp head for numbers and strong experience in stock management, logistics, and operations. A bit of a triple threat.
As our Cornwall Roastery Manager and Operative, Josh will be roasting all your coffee this season. From day one, he has been a great addition to the team, and we are excited to see him grow into the role.
Make sure to say hello when you are next in.
Introducing our single origin coffee “Moonlight”
“Africa Moon” is A naturally processed Arabica coffee from the Rwenzori Mountains in Uganda, sourced from the community and grown by smallholder farmers. It is characterised by sweet, complex, and floral notes, with flavors of chocolate, pecan and clementine featuring the SL28 varietals. The coffee supports local farming families and emphasises fair pricing and stable sales for farmers, with Omwani partnering with social enterprises like Agri Evolve to achieve these goals.
The natural process has always been the commonly practiced method for producing coffee in the Rwenzori Mountains. A recurring sight as you travel through the mountains is seeing the farmers drying their harvests on tarpaulins at the front of their homes. Locally this coffee is called DRUGAR, meaning Dried Uganda Arabica, and though Agri Evolve largely buy fresh cherries from the farmers they work with, there is still a demand, – and a tradition -, driven by farmers to produce this natural coffee which is so rooted in the history of the Rwenzoris.
Africa Moon is a coffee both grown and processed by the people of the Rwenzori Mountains, the Mountains of the Moon.
Tasting Notes : Dark Chocolate | Clementine | Pecan
Arabica Variety: SL14 & SL28
Harvest Period: APR – JUN

Team Introduction: Meet Connor
As we enter our second year at Surface, with growth accelerating at an exciting pace, we thought it would be the perfect time to shine a spotlight on the amazing team behind Surface Coffee.
This is Connor. Based at our Devon roastery, Connor has been with us for just under a year. With an engineering background, he actually played a crucial role in installing our roasting machine in Devon. It was here that we connected over our shared passion for coffee, and from there, our journey together began.
Since joining us, Connor has taken on a variety of roles. As a roastery operative, he’s hands-on with the machines, and he also handles any DIY maintenance across both our Newquay and Devon roasteries. His creativity and talent shine through in everything he does, and he brings a positive, down-to-earth energy to the team.
In addition to his technical expertise, Connor leads barista training for our wholesale clients, ensuring the Surface experience extends far beyond our roastery. He’s a familiar face around the roastery, and I’m sure many of you have seen him and witnessed firsthand the immense value he adds to our team.
Connor is truly a gem an irreplaceable asset to Surface Coffee as we continue to grow.

Good luck & Happy Shopping
Hello Surface Coffee Crew,
As we start the new year and enter our second year of business, we’ve got some exciting updates to share.
Our Lifetime Canisters will be released on 26th January, alongside all existing pre-orders. (Which are still open) On the same day, we’ll also be launching our brand-new website.
The new site will give you full control over your subscriptions, weekly, daily, or monthly deliveries, with the ability to pause, upgrade, or change your plan whenever you like.
This functionality will also be available for our wholesale customers, who will have access to a dedicated portal to place orders and track progress with ease.
Another exciting feature of the new site is a UK-wide map, showing:
Your nearest lifetime canister pick-up location
Where you can refill your canister
This is designed to encourage customers to shop local and support independent coffee shops across the UK. Plus reduce waste.
If you’d like to be part of this mission, please email us at [email protected].
We have a huge year ahead and can’t wait to continue growing into what we believe can be the world’s most sustainable coffee company not just in words, but through real action.
We’re also filming a documentary about our journey and mission, which will be released on Amazon later this year.
As always, thank you for your continued support. We’re only just getting started.
