The tape’s 9 tracks are an unstable fission of supercharged improvisation, kinetic percussion, overcompressed hip-hop production, SP-808 sorcery, and electrified swirls of flutes. After years as a multi-hyphenate community organizer, beatmaker, producer & DJ in LA, Brandon “grump” Smith soon found himself immersed in LA’s rich underground experimental scene. As a sonic sorcerer on the SP-808, grump revolutionized this classic 90s sampler as a powerful tool for improvised music. On top of his diverse bank of loops and samples, grump uses the onboard effects to live-process his wide array of flutes and electronics, weaving heavy audio collages over the propulsive, energized rhythms performed by Saarup. Thanks to grump’s hiphop production background, the live drumming is produced with that saturated, overcompressed sound that makes the listener feel the kick heavy in the chest. “6 donuts” by Inch of Sketch (full video on YouTube / link in bio) shot and edited by yours truly Been working on thisnproject with @supersaarup since early last year, an intuitive adjective that fell out the sky when I was asked by a friend to describe these jams me and Kristian were having Spring/Summer ‘24…” ehh it’s like hip hop and free jazz with an inch of sketch”. 💡 ..I’ve brought it up in our following jam but the name just sort of lingered between us for a couple months, I wasn’t sure if Kristian actually dug it yet haha. But one day we were asked to play a show at the Lou Harrison house and Kristian brought it back up, “Inch of Sketch?” intentions clicked. This homage to samples, loops, and free jazz rhythms is a bit sketchy to latch onto immediately, ash called it Free-Hop lmao. And that’s all okay with us. It’s all for fun, it’s all music. Brought the completed project back to ash @searchingrecords since they unknowingly played a part in coining the name. A nice lil full oval moment. Album will be out next week 11/13 + we’ll be playing at Primetime Pub tonight at 7pm where there’ll be tapes available :)

Grundsporene blev til i et sommerhus på Ærø under Corona nedlukningerne i 2020. Siden er der redigeret, klippet fra og føjet til og nu glæder vi os helt vildt til at dele det med Verden!!
