Guy J… the star at the center of the progressive solar system. Balance Croatia has been filled with amazing moments, but this is something I will truly never forget! With the sun rising over the mountains and sea, @guyjdiary unleashed this track, representing everything this festival is about. LOVE and PASSION for the PROGRESSIVE sound! For me personally, one of the themes of the year for me has been truly starting to understand why Guy J fans have so much enthusiasm for his music and devotion to him as an artist. His fans don’t just like his music, they live for it. And I’m really starting to get why after sets like last night I’m still editing my full recap for YouTube, but I saw this clip and just had to share. 🎧SASHA🎧 When you look back on the history of progressive underground music, different fusions of sounds are at the forefront of the scene at different times. And after listening to so many mix compilations from the late 90s, the progressive trance sound served as the vertebrae to so many great sets. Here, we have @djsashaofficial dropping the needle on Van Bellen’s ‘Let Me Take You (On A Journey) to very intimate club (I believe it was called Logic LA) in 1997 in Santa Monica, California. Two hours of this set were recorded and aired on Groove Radio 103.1FM on December 21, 1997 if you wanted to check out the whole set. 🎧AAHZ RARE FOOTAGE🎧 If you want a taste of what the early 90s Orlando scene was like, this is for you. In this clip, we see Resident DJ Dave Cannalte in the DJ booth at The Beacham Theater for the Aahz Unity IV party. While it’s not covered consistently in the history of underground music, Orlando experienced its own Second Summer Of Love in parallel with the UK in 1988, and by 1991, Aahz was one of the best club nights in the world, supported by claims of clubbers both local and international, as well as the fact that Sasha and John Digweed both made their first-ever US appearance in Florida (whether that was at Aahz or Simon’s in Gainesville I’m not entirely positive). The craziest thing I realized is that this clip is taken a full year before Renaissance would open in the UK, just to show you how Florida was really helping develop what the progressive underground sound would become. In this clip, you can hear Resident DJ Dave Cannalte hammering the iconic Florida Breaks sound. While Kimball Collins’ ‘United DJs of America’ mix album would cement his association with Aahz around the globe, local clubbers hold Dave Cannalte with the same regard, and he’s one of the DJs I would love to interview most, so if you see this @dave_cannalte , there is an open invitation for a podcast episode. 🎧SASHA AND JOHN DIGWEED🎧 I’ve seen clubbers write literal paragraphs about the dynamic between @djsashaofficial and @djjohndigweed , but in this clip, Digweed explains the magic in his own words. ‘It’s hard to describe how Sasha and I work so well together. It’s just like a mutual love of the same music…’ I think we all have that mate where music stands at the center of the friendship, and those friendships can last a lifetime. But rather than play each other tracks back and forth, Sasha and John invite thousands on the dancefloor to join the session. This interview was recorded in 1996 off the back of the release of Northern Exposure. The dynamic between Sasha and John has been placed under a microscope for decades, with clubbers feeling the need to pledge their allegiance to one or the other. And while their DJ partnership and the residencies that followed shaped a new path for this sound, the magic of their sets might lie in the fact that they’re just two mates sharing new music with each other every time they step in the DJ booth, and if you have that same friend in your own life, you know how much fun that can be. The question doesn’t have to be ‘Sasha or John?’… because ‘Sasha and John’ has always been the answer. LETS GO 🔥

I have a CRIPPLING FEAR OF HEIGHTS, so when I looked out and saw the SPIRE of the EMPIRE STATE BUILDING just before my set, all my plans for making a recap video went out the window and the only thing that mattered was playing a good set and staying focused. The wind was INTENSE and I couldn’t hear much from the booth, but that’s why you always put the music first… it will do all the talking. I could not be more excited to announce that this years Super Progressive Boat Party at @balancecroatia is bringing together two of my favorite artists in the world… @mikerish and @zankeegulati Mike Rish - Few people have had a bigger year than Mike Rish. I invited him to be our guest at the Super Progressive Day Party last July where he played for 100 dedicated clubbers, and then got to see him play in front of 10,000 people in Buenos Aires later in November. The launch of his @tornn.rec injected new energy into our scene and now stands as one of the most exciting and promising labels in our scene. Zankee Gulati - The man who can do it all. As a producer, he’s one of the most reliable talents for @djnickwarren and @thesoundgarden , and as a promoter, he’s putting on some of the most important events in Australia with his @bootzncatzevents promotion. The bigger story - Last year, I did a deep dive on the Australian scene, and it became clear to me that Mike and Zankee are not only continuing the legacy of the unique style of Australian progressive house but they’re really pushing it forward. 🎧TOP 3 DANNY TENAGLIA REMIXES🎧 His reputation as ‘The DJ’s DJ’ is what comes to mind first, but @dannytenagliaofficial just might also be the GOAT of the Remix. When it comes to remixing, I think Danny’s super power is his ability to add a sense of drama to already superb pieces of music, specifically the way he utilizes vocals, as you can see in my three selections below. 🎧Ryuichi Sakamoto & Satoshi Tomiie🎧 You learn something new every day… and today I learned that @satoshi_tomiie is a lot more than a great DJ and Producer… In this clip, we see Satoshi playing alongside Ryuichi Sakamoto, leader of Yellow Magic Orchestra, and respectfully referred to as ‘The Professor’. I really don’t know a lot about the piano, but I do know the producers I love most have a common reverence for it (artists like @simonvuarambon and @grazianoraffa among many others) so to see Satoshi on stage is a reminder just how many layers there are to musical mastery. Electronic music may be the most accessible form of music to learn, but make no mistake about it, to truly become a master requires a level of musicality we don’t often talk about. 🎧CHILLING MOMENTS🎧 This means more to me than I can explain. This Friday night, I’ll be opening up for my hero @dannytenagliaofficial at @marqueeskydeck on The Edge in NYC! For those of you who have been with me on this journey since the beginning, you know how DT changed everything for SP. Danny was the third DJ I ever interviewed on my podcast, and immediately after, he offered me a job as his social media manager if I moved home to NJ from LA. One month later, I was working for Danny and the rest is history. The gig is going to be on The Edge at Hudson Yards. Being on the dancefloor for DT above New York would be enough for me, but the fact that I’m going to be in the booth is just unbelievable. I always say that I’m a music journalist first and foremost, but there are so many different ways to express your passion for this music, and DJing lets me share my passion for this sound in a completely different way, and all I can really say is thank you to Danny and Gui and to everyone who has supported me with Super Progressive.
