Errol Barrow understood that sovereignty was never meant to be ceremonial. It was not a flag moment, nor a fixed inheritance, but an ongoing act of design shaped by choice, discipline, and collective responsibility.
On Errol Barrow Day, we honour a vision that insisted independence must be constructed, sustained, and defended not only through policy and institutions, but through how a people see themselves and what they believe they are capable of building together.
Barrow once urged Barbadians to consider the mirror image they held of themselves not as a gesture of vanity, but as a measure of readiness. The reflection mattered because it revealed ambition, self-respect, and the courage to imagine forward.
Today, that mirror is still before us. It reflects the image we choose to shape one grounded in dignity, agency, and intention as we continue designing a future that is unmistakably our own.
In that spirit, the team at Supernova Lab is excited to announce the roll out of 4 additional national fellowships, now open!
We are inviting researchers, creatives, and practitioners to help shape what comes next. Follow the link in bio to come build the future with us.
