When I started Joantz 3 years ago I didn’t do it for the popularity or to put myself on a pedestal. I started Joantz because I was an artist on the come up and I realized that DMV artists especially us DC natives had less and less platforms for us with each passing year and the artist culture, our messages, and our power was being systemically wiped from existence. I never knew Joantz would go from a one off show to a monthly, community building, and community organizing event that platforms artists, pours into the DMV community, and organizes efforts to give back to those in need. I appreciate everyone who has made this community what it is especially
@hrrecords ,
@john_bachman_ who presented the idea to me when I first started, my wife,
@artbyaugustlee who does all the artwork, all the artists that have passed thru the doors, all the first time performers we’ve debuted, and the generations of musicians that are inspiring each other and our communities. I gotta step away for a min but I’ll be back, next time we’ll be even more organized, intentional, and supportive of artists and our communities. See yall in a few. Peace ✌🏼
