@paperbagrecords has been very respectful in my decision to remove my catalog from the platform and I appreciate them for the support as well as the music I have control over myself. It will probably take a few weeks for it to actually be removed completely.
This is a small gesture but important to me, and I think it’s for the best.
If you still use Spotify I’m sorry, but maybe consider switching to another platform like bandcamp or tidal.

“Sunnsetter has also confirmed their new full length, Heaven Hang Over Me is set for a November 15, 2024 release, on Paper Bag Records. The new album title curiously, is drawn from a couple entirely independent sources. ‘Heaven’ is in reference to the universal energy that surrounds us, not some extension of a religious faith. “I talk about it as this feeling, knowing it’s there, not knowing what it is or how to explain its existence. I don’t see the world as a literal place.” Andrew also completely misheard a Nirvana lyric (in 1993’s In Utero track, ‘Dumb’) and that earworm has stuck ever since. When Cobain sings ‘have a hangover now” it accidentally translated to Andrew’s ears as “heaven hang over now.” Another notable Sunnsetter mash up.
With Heaven Hang Over Me, Sunnsetter is dogmatically pursuing the through line between light and dark and the balance within quiet and loud. It’s been a career calling. “There is a catharsis that comes from playing heavy music that I find myself pining after, since starting to play live as a band. The feeling of letting go and yelling and carrying on in front of people in a room is something that really drives me. Enveloping myself and everyone else in that room with sound, and letting it take over in a way that feels overwhelming and all consuming.” The truest version of what music can be for Sunnsetter, comes out in that environment. “ - @julieboothstagram8
Watching the weather change, and the world evolve into a place I no longer recognize. We all feel a bit lost.
- I am thinking a lot about my place in this streaming dominated world of music, after removing my music from Spotify It feels both liberating and confusing. I know that the platform is still the most used and main metric for music industry types to make booking decisions etc, yet we all know how little it actually matters in the grand scheme of it all.
I am feeling nostalgic so I compiled a list of the last 10 full length records I’ve made over the last 12 years that I’ve been releasing music under the name ‘sunnsetter’ which I adopted in 2015 changing it from a previous pseudonym ‘they themselves are beasts’
All of which are available on bandcamp and any streaming service other than Spotify.
1- Heaven hang over me (2024) - emo/ alt/ post-rock
2- The best that I can be (2023) - indie/ shoegaze/ post/ ambient
3- All watched over by machines of loving grace (2022) - ambient/ alt
4- the love you withhold is the pain you carry (2020) - alt/ indie/ emo/ post rock/ electronic/ etc
5- worrybody (2018) - emo/ post rock
6- attic son (2017) - ambient folk/ post rock/ bedroom etc
7- naturally occurring improvised music for the end of the world (2019) - ambient folk/ phone demos
8- it was winter and I wrote some songs (2016) - stark/ post rock/ emo/ bedroom
9- self titled (2015-remaster 2019) - electronic/ pop/ ambient/ bedroom
10- the mourning of.. (2014 - they themselves/ sunnsetter) - post rock/ alt/ ambient etc.
7-string Shoegaze / nu-metal type tones are my favourite thing.
This is just left/ right guitar layer.
Splitter on pedal board for amp signal and DI signal simultaneously when tracking.
DI signal is going into a @tascam_official porta studio with the preamps hot for that crunchy tone and the amp is a @fender bassman micd up with a Se VR2 and an sm58.
Pedals are a just a boss dd8 and ocd drive #shoegaze #emogaze #shoegazer #recording #7string
Happy 420 yall.
This video is a year and a half old but it’s one of our favourites to this day.
The video is available via link in bio and the song can be listened to literally anywhere except Spotify :)
Something I wrote at the time -
-To clarify,
This video is meant to be a parody.
The reality is that I do and have struggled with substance abuse issues.
I made this video as a way of poking fun at that culture, the culture of toxic influence over the music industry which encourages drug use and toxic behaviour.
At one point in my life (10 years ago or
More) I lived the life depicted in this video.
I partied, I smoked copious amounts of 🌿, i did other dr*gs , I was depressed, dr*nk and unwell in so many ways.
It has taken me a decade to get away from it, and yet I still struggle with the feelings and the desire.
My attempt to own that behaviour is to simply poke fun at it and have fun with it in the process of making a silly video with my friends.
Yay, here’s a clip of us playing a brand new unreleased song in Hamilton last night (on the next record :)) - come see us ripping with @leona_hell_ & @uncaughtinpromise in Toronto @dinastavern on April 22 (this Wednesday). New band lineup, mostly new set with lots of new songs 💚
I don’t want this post to feel like a downer lol but I am just some type of way. Who cares about geese, there’s way more to it than that, also they are a real band and make decent music. The issue isn’t about one specific thing, it’s about how the system itself is designed to only benefit those with the money and the connections to make it work. We need more than ever to try and build something for ourselves in this.
Please for the love of god invite me to your shows , go to your friends shows, listen to their music. Do what you can if you can.
We are literally a band again and playing shows again for the first time in like a year. After a hectic year of change, finally rocking with the full band lineup, playing a handful of new unreleased songs (for the next record which is mostly done being recorded 🥹) - come see us play live music this following week or so starting tomorrow in Hamilton at doors pub first with @songsbywedding & @blosumband and then next week on April 22 with @leona_hell_ & @uncaughtinpromise at @dinastavern
