Got my first lens replacement surgery done today on my right eye. Left eye on Thursday. It’s remarkable how crisp and clear my sight is now out of my right eye. It’s such a discombobulating trip to have one cataract astigmatism eye and one brand new eye together. Modern medicine is pretty magical.
Soaking in the softball season with both my girls playing Varsity together for the 1st and last time. McCallum is 7-0 in district and both Lu and Dot are KILLING it!!!!
Installed the 8 light blue “waves” today for “Shimmer”. Next will be Ryah’s AMAZING tile sections. Here is a little slide show of the on site progress over the last 2 months.
So today was a huge day in realizing my latest public art piece “Shimmer” at Northwest Pool. The day started with drilling a 14’ deep hole for the pier of the foundation. Next is fabricating a 20’ long rebar cage that drops into the hole and then tying all the rebar off of that to create the cage for the sculpture pedestal. Next is pouring and troweling the concrete of the pier and footing. Just an incredibly long day that I fortunately had the help of my badass wife Ryah Christensen to make happen.
Here’s a blast from the past I found while going through my old CDs. So I DJd at KVRX in the 90s for several years and they put me in charge of layout and photography for the inaugural live CD of bands that recorded at the station. Not really sure why as I had zero experience in any if those fields. The theme was “Cooking By Strobelight” so I spent hours staging and photographing the cover image with the help of many bong hits. This actually won album cover of the year at the Chronicles music awards in 1995 maybe due to some ballot stuffing. So many great local and touring bands on this and just a cool slice of DIY college radio 90’s Austin.
Looking for New Years Eve plans??? Look no further. Come to The Rust Bucket (AKA The Tin Whistle) for some top notch music, fire pit and good vibes. Did I mention it’s a free show???
