#Grief doesn’t always show up as sadness. Sometimes it shows up as anger, retreat, more wine and weed, or a vague sense that something is off.
In the @substack post that resonated most this year, @aprilpride_ wrote about why psych3d3lics so often surface grief we thought we had already worked through.
The short answer: “processed” is often a lie we tell ourselves to survive. What we call closure is usually containment — functioning without falling apart because we’ve learned to carry it well.
Integration is something else. The loss remains, but our relationship to it shifts.
That’s the territory we’ll sit in on Thursday, May 7th at @townhall_seattle for the final SetSet Psych3d3lic Salon of the season.
Joined by Dr. @sunil1007 of @aimsinstituteseattle and @laurasullivancassidy of @recomposelife we’ll explore how ketamine, psilocybin, MDMA, and 5-MeO-DMT are being used to support emotional processing and meaning-making in the context of loss by softening sorrow, reconnecting to love, and reorienting to the life still ahead.

DEA has now formally asked HHS for a rescheduling recommendation for psilocybin. So glad this is moving forward after our initial filing 3.5 years ago.
From @law360_news . there is a small bit of text that is cut and obscured on the second image. This is what it says: In October 2023, the Ninth Circuit remanded the petition to the DEA and ordered the agency to clarify why it believes the drug should remain a Schedule I substance.
After months of wrangling — during which attorneys for Aggarwal satisfied DEA requests for additional evidence of psilocybin's safety and efficacy in a medical context — the DEA said in July that it had the necessary material to seek a medical and scientific analysis and scheduling recommendation from HHS.
Following health officials' evaluation, HHS will submit its rescheduling recommendation back to the DEA, which is bound to accept health officials' findings with respect to the science, but will then undertake its own investigation into the drug's

It was wonderful to spend time with my old friend and colleague, Monte Levine, at Washington state's first-ever statewide harm reduction conference earlier this week, put on by the Washington State Department of Health in collab with WSU. It was held on the lands of the Suquamish People, overlooking Agate Pass, which is the tribe that Chief Sealth's mother hails from. Monte's has been a trailblazer--his was the first program in the state to distribute naloxone to prevent overdose deaths and he spearheaded the good Samaritan law that ended the criminalization of those who call to report overdoses.

Here’s my written testimony to the WA State Senate committee who held a hearing today on a bill to set up a state regulated psychedelic services system in WA, starting with psilocybin. The House held a similar hearing yesterday on the companion bill. I submitted similar written testimony there yesterday. Sunil Aggarwal is a South Asian American physician and medical geographer. He is Past Chair of the Integrative Medicine Special Interest Group and an inaugural member and chair-elect of the Safe Use in Psychedelic-Assisted Therapies Forum at the American Academy of Hospice and Palliative Medicine.
Among many other professional and academic accolades, Dr. Aggarwal maintains a clinical practice at AIMS Institute where he is Co-Founder and Co-Director. He has been qualified as an expert in cannabis and psilocybin medical and religious use in county, state, and federal courts. He is petitioning for Right to Try access to psilocybin for patients.

Attended From Hiroshima to Hope on Hiroshima Day this year with 2 artist friends. I chose the prayer of Hope on my lantern this year. It was amazing to see the increasingly large turnouts for this annual event that started in the 80s. There is a hunger for public sacred ceremonies where we can express our wishes and share and transform our grief. (check out their elevating art at: @klove4art and @noapiper )
