The ease with which nearly an entire age continues to graze as planetary asphyxiations already dam our throats and genocidal violence unfolds before us gives ground for perplexity. We are left with rather little room to wonder how, in eras past, a people -on grounds of blood or belief, nation or creed- could be banished to zones of non-being, reduced to a dust that fleets all-too quickly from collective memory.
Mystifying indeed is a politics from whose mouth flows the regular condemnation and recognition of 'historic' colonial injustices, but which disavows any resistance seizing as its instant of praxis the present; perhaps it is the mouth of a corpse. Colonial rule may reign in time, but its material unfolding always is realized topographically: the division of territories; the erection of walls and checkpoints; the control of flows-of people, goods, resources; even-and often especially-the destruction of the very zones there delimited.
That Gaza stands as the most brutal and explicit instance of how modern settler colonial governmentality functions and yet whose historical and ongoing abasement seldom elicits response is such a perplexity.
To praise decolonial resistance as symbol while condemning it as act is a morally vapid position; emancipation in theory alone is but shadows flickering in a cavern. There is no colloquy "between the sword and the neck", sure as there is no world but this for liberation.
