Baby found her way to the Hamptons ✨I made this piece at the start of 2018 for a masquerade gala. It then went on to exhibit at @thebushwickgenerator for an exhibition curated by the late and great Angel @newyorkromantic . Then, at the exhibition, the property manager and developer of the building took a liking to her and told me that if I left her up, they’ll give me space to create in and run a gallery below. This blessing lasted until 2023. We formed The Parallel, Sun Arts, and used the space to give back and support the Brooklyn and Queens community using Art as a utility for change. We worked with elected officials to give free certified art courses in the space, feed thousands of families with food from farms and restaurants who didn’t know what to do during Covid, formed public school murals teaching the kids about beautification with creativity, and loads more. After the developer sold the building, this piece came home with me, commemorating such an exciting chapter in my life. To see her end up here, out and about again for Hamptons Fine Art Fair Weekend, is a wave of appreciation. Thank you for all the beautiful people that have been a part of my artistic journey. ✨ And thank you @eddybogaert007 for curating such a beautiful weekend! ✨ blessings! #k #art #collector #collection #kelilucas #artist #eyeswideshut #contemporaryart

🌼 On the ground at Elysian Park! Continuing our volunteer collaboration with LA Works, last month, Team SUN and student volunteers from UCLA helped wildfire mitigation efforts by clearing the invasive mustard species and planting wildflowers at Elysian Park in Central Los Angeles. Despite the hot sun (95F), volunteers put in the rewarding work. “It was crazy to see how much mustard seed had grown in the past couple of months with all the rain, but it will be cool to go back in a month and see the native wildflowers in bloom. It was also a good reminder that this recovery is not a one-time effort, but continuous work that will never fully be done.” ~Helen, volunteer coordinator Recovery in LA is ongoing and you can help. Be sure to follow SUN here for more volunteer opportunities.

Under regimes that would sanitize our story, we refuse to be rewritten. Yes, Juneteenth is a celebration, but it is so much more. It is a declaration that Black heritage, struggle, resilience, and ingenuity are forces that defy erasure. Sustainable communities represent and honor the unerasable truth of our collective spirit.

The NYS Legislature passed S.8417/A.8888 to end a building rule that forces all New Yorkers to waste money on expensive and outdated gas pipelines. Look 👀 what people power can do! This was one of the major pillars of the #nyheatact and Brooklyn volunteers and advocates helped make it happen. Gratitude to the many leading organizations in this effort. Now @govkathyhochul can be encouraged to sign it into law.

Beyond Black History Month, be inspired by the Montgomery Bus Boycott, embracing that economic resistance—powered by community unity—can rewrite the rules. Today, and every day, stand together and spark change.

Last week, Team SUN and student volunteers from UCLA joined @lafamilyhousing to conduct a vital count and assessment of LA’s unhoused. The first count since the devastating 2025 LA Wildfires, hundreds took to the streets for an accurate assessment of the needs in the community. Annual counts like this guide critical resource allocation and policy decisions. Social sustainability in action means we better understand, support, and uplift our neighbors in need. Thank you to everyone who contributed to making a tangible difference! In LA and want to give back? Sign-up today, link in bio.
