I had an absolutely blast at #Norwescon48 as the Science Guest of Honor. I got to talk about space as much as I liked, did panels on mad scientists, extraterrestrial communication, misuses of science, paper airplanes, blackout poetry, and Frankenstein! Not only did my hotel room face the airport so I was in aviation heaven watching the planes take off and land, but the universe decided to show off with a sun dog and a sun pillar. All this plus checking in with @nasaartemis between events, what more could a space nerd ask for?!
Thanks for having me @norwescon and I really hope to be back next year to do even more. 🚀🤓✨

I couldn’t talk about this for TWENTY MONTHS, but back in February 2024, we hosted the production crew for @plur1busappletv at the VLA for a week. Pluribus is the new show by Vince Gilligan of Breaking Bad and Better Call Saul, but even more importantly (to me) of X-Files fame. The opening scenes of the first episode were shot at the VLA set the entire plot of the show in motion! 📡
Helping to support the shoot was an incredible experience. @galaxyfarmer_jill , @astro_goddess , and I were the dream team and @locationsariel was a blast to work with. Just as when Contact was filmed at the site, the real control room was deemed too far from the antennas to be exciting so production put a literal shipping container next to the center of the array and dressed it up as a make-shift astronomer office space. Yours truly planted an easter egg in the background as pictured in the last two photos above. 😎
You may notice that the majority of these photos are of the VLA at night. This is because there are normally never lights shining on the dishes but production wanted the opening scene to be after sunset (more dramatic clearly) so together with our site staff, they installed floodlights for of all 27 antennas. 🤩
I have thousands of photos of the VLA in every type of daylight, but seeing it glowing on the dark plains of San Agustin was soooooo special. I will never forget it. ✨
