Summer will be here before you know it! Looking for something fun (and free) to do? Come to one of our macroinvertebrate days and learn about the bugs that live in our streams. These tiny critters teach us a lot about water quality and they are eager to share their knowledge with you! #sswcd #summitswcd #rickysswcd #macroinvertebrate #streamsampling #WaterQuality #waterquality
🌿Looking for volunteers🌿
Summit SWCD and the Village of Richfield will be installing native plants along a riparian corridor at the Richfield Village Hall!

Rain garden installation with Richfield Township and some amazing volunteers! 🌿
Last Saturday, after the Rain Garden Workshop, we got our hands dirty planting the new Richfield Township rain garden. 💧
The rain held off while we installed more than 25 plant plugs representing seven native plant species. Participants gained hands-on experience and knowledge they can use to create their own rain gardens at home!
Scroll through to see the before and after pictures➡
Thank you to everyone who came out, and a special thank you to the Richfield Township Service Department for all of the site prep work! 🌸

💧 What are BMPs? (Best Management Practices)
When it comes to stormwater, BMPs are simple, effective ways to keep rain where it falls and prevent pollution from washing into our waterways.
Think of BMPs as everyday solutions that make a big difference:
🌿 Rain gardens that capture and filter runoff
🌿 Rain barrels that store water for later use
🌿 Native plants with deep roots that absorb more water
🌿 Permeable surfaces that let water soak into the ground
🌿 Good habits like proper fertilizer use and picking up pet waste
Why do they matter?
Because when rain flows over hard surfaces, it can carry pollutants into storm drains, streams, and rivers. BMPs help slow it down, soak it in, and clean it up naturally 💧

If bubble bees wore pants, they would look like this flower! Our final spring ephemeral, the Dutchman's Breeches, resembles a little pair of pants and the pollinators go wild for it.

Continuing our journey through native wild flowers - up next is Ohio's state wildflower, the Trillium! Definitely keep an eye out for these showy flowers the next time you are walking through the woods! #nativeplants #springephemerals #summitswcd #sswcd

Stormwater Myths vs. Facts!?🤔
❌Myth: "Pet waste is natural, so it’s harmless"
✅Fact: Pet waste contains bacteria and nutrients that pollute waterways and can make people sick.
Only rain down the drain!💧
