Ever Wonder is a thoughtful and imaginative children’s book written by Budjette Tan and illustrated by Bow Guerrero that focuses on curiosity, imagination, and the simple questions children often ask about the world. Framed with a father writing a letter to his young child, the book is rife with rich, colorful artwork that builds upon a sweet, simple, yet timeless message that resonates with young and old alike: it encourages children to be curious, imaginative, and open to discovery.
As simple as it may seem, it was a story that I needed to read, as a reminder to my adult self to find magic and joy in the act of creation - something that needs to be rekindled in adults as we spend most of our days trying to survive.
Additionally, I'd lost my pet dog recently, and the grief that I felt had been so immense, but I found myself reaching for this book because I remembered so clearly that it had a few pages dedicated to loss and grief (added the pictures above). So not only was this book such a heartfelt story, it also helped me process some very unpleasant emotions, and reminded me of the power of writing. My furry friend will live on, because I'm immortalizing him with my words.
I'd originally given the book 4 stars, but after rereading it recently and the way it resonated with me, I've bumped it up to 5. It's a beautifully written book of thoughtful whimsy, perfect for children, parents, angsty teens, teenage-adults, and everyone in between.
Ponder on the tales inside Ever Wonder ✨
Ever Wonder is a beautifully crafted love letter from the author to his son, where he shares his anxieties as a father. It’s filled with authentic depictions of how parents feel as they watch their children face the realities of the world. The storytelling truly drew me in, making me feel like this story was written for me, possibly giving me a glimpse of my parents’ fears.
However, despite the worry, it shows that children are more creative and smarter than we often give them credit. Their imaginations run wild, their feelings are deep, and their curiosity sparks wonder! ✨ I love how the children’s innocence was portrayed. Even though some stories may be heavy for them to fully understand, they still manage to grasp their environment and the people around them. This picture book captures the essence of childhood and the reflections of a parent.
Additionally, the illustrations add a dazzling and vibrant layer to the storytelling. Each page is unique and perfectly complements the text. I would love to read this over and over again! 💙

When I first read ‘Ever Wonder’, I knew that Sir Budjette and Sir Bow Guerero poured their heart into it, just as I poured my eyes out with every page I turned. It may be short, but every word and every illustration feels genuine and sincere.
‘Ever Wonder’ is a heartfelt letter-turned-book that takes you on an adventure from your own imagination. It will not only touch your core as a parent, a parent-to-be or a story teller, but also as a kid who once dreamed of having grand adventures and believed your parents wanted those dreams for you.
This book hit me deeply as it reminded me how lucky I was to have my late father. When I think about it now, I realize my dad wanted me to have those adventures for myself as he let me explore and enjoy the world on my own. He taught me how to pick myself up when it felt like my world was falling apart.
And now, as a parent, I want my son to learn the same - even though the world can be scary and full of judgement, there are things you must do despite the fear to truly enjoy life. As the saying goes, ‘Do it scared’ because the world is an endless chapter of adventures and challenges waiting to be lived and to be shared.
This was the first book I finished reading this year, and I’m glad it was this one. Thank you Summit Books and TBTMPH. ✨❤️
