Hello 👋 it’s me Summer Ester Orr, new Farmers Market Manager! I’ll be seeing you every Tuesday at the Arbol Farmers Market! This is a very special market and I’m looking forward to connecting with all the producers & vendors in the NFV — we have an incredible abundance in this valley and I’m very excited be surrounded by such a vibrant ecosystem of organic agriculture & craftspeople. I think it’s one-of-a-kind.
in my downtime I’m making pottery, looking at flowers and building things on @summer.eorr .
see youuuu sooon in the park! 🍒
#rocketkiln testing in February back near the salton sea! entirely #offgrid cone 10 firing with scrap wood. The kiln is made of salvaged materials, brought out onto that dusty salty ancient lake bed…. two cups are Nara porcelain clay bought in Palm Springs, lined with a mesquite ash glaze collected locally. The kiln rocketed from 70* to 2300*F in about 2.5 hours. I added some globs of soda ash into the firebox. Once-fired. I did not bisque anything #bisquingisnotreal
I love #woodfiring. Going to have a ceramics s🅰️le. Wednesday, Dec 10th. 10am PT
1. This pic is from the may 2025 anagama firing at @cobbartandecology

I’ll be vending in Reno Nevada, for 🅷🅸-🅳🅴🆉 world famous art & craft market! December 6 & 7! Will have some one-of-a-kind milkpainted wares (like the mirror above) & more. Hope to see you :-)
Coyote wandering through, got its eye out for a tiny snack
Nara porcelain #sodafired to 11^ , inlaid with amaco black underglaze. Fired at @cobbartandecology earlier this august

Some pretty promising and exciting results from my preliminary 08^ firing with MIJA: mini-modular #rocketkiln prototype!!!
The kiln got to 1750℉ in almost 4 hours with maybe three bundles of fir/pine, and successfully bisqued some midrange SB red clay.
Hypothetically, a kiln like this is smokeless, off-grid, and uses mostly salvaged materials. I think this kind of model has the potential to democratize atmospheric firing and dramatically alter the accessibility of ceramics as a whole. I used the rocket kiln PDF from @lisaorrpottery that’s available online, open-source and free as my guide. Thank you Lisa for all the work you are sharing and doing!!!
