One and the other
Shortlisted competition for affordable housing in Geneva.
“We are much more interested in the principle of addition than in simply replacing what is there with something new. It isn’t a question of ‘one or the other’ but a question of ‘one and the other.’ That’s why what already exists, and what we find in place, no matter what its components may be, is always an enrichment. That is much more important to us than simply building a form.”

023_PORTEOUS
Project for the transformation of a former water treatment plant into a socio-cultural center.
Since 2020, SO has been working with the association Porteous @porteous____ to reimagine this building, originally designed by Georges Brera for an industrial purpose, as a public space.
The project engages with different qualities of climate, faces the rigidity of norms, and generates unique conditions through a series of precise interventions.

Kadiyak
Trusses taken from the nearby bus depot are turned upside down to carry the roof of the new kayak club in Geneva. Tension cables at both ends of the structure redirect the forces to their original position within the flipped trusses. The ground floor, composed of the re-used prefab concrete panels taken from the building of “Le Courrier” is able to sustain the frequent floods of the site.
Always a treat to work with @sujets.objets and the great engineers from Coopérative 2401.
6th prize
Community concert Hall for Onex, Geneva.
Responding to a brief which required the demolition of the existing concert hall, the project transforms its spaces while adding an extension responding to the complex programmatic needs.

Arboretum
The existing back facade and its balcony become a sneaky spot to see and be seen in the new concert hall.
Another great collaboration with Sujets Objets and En-Dehors for the extension and renovation of Renens’ concert hall. The existing building, composed of two main volumes articulated by a circulation space, presents a refined geometry. Adding to the composition, a compact ‘mini tower’ is added on the north side, hosting the administrative and technical functions. the resulting two interstices echo the original structure. The narrow one becomes the new main delivery access and the wide one hosts the additional concert hall. The connection of both concert halls not only opens to a flexibility of uses, but also shapes a new directionality on the site. The main pedestrian flow gives on a new public plaza, extending within the concert hall. A visual connection is formed through the building, connecting both sides of Renens’ highly specific and valuable Arboretum.
SUJETS OBJETS
TRIAL AND ERROR : PORTEOUS
SUJETS OBJETS present an experimental and provocative process, transforming an abandoned water treatment plant into a space for publicness. Through activist-architect collaborations the project examines architectural responses via events and installations, transforming obsolescence into a cultural playground and performative community center.

4th prize ☀️
Open competition for the extension of the school of landscape architecture in Geneva.
The project is a space for education intersecting the scales of climate, territory and architecture. The spatialisation of the facade offers a space for circulation which functions as a thermal regulator.

4th prize 🏆 ☄️
Open competition for the extension of the school of landscape architecture in Geneva.
The project is a space for education intersecting the scales of climate, territory and architecture. The two new buildings extending are therefore not conceived as barriers against their environment, but as an integral part of it.

28.06.XY
