Newcastle, the Festival and the place, both brilliant. Writers are really fun to be around and this festival was packed with inspirational and entertaining sessions. I had to get up really early to visit the beach and the sea baths but I managed to squeeze everything in. So grateful to be invited. Thanks Rosemarie, festival organizer, for including me. #newcastlewritersfestival
I’ve been busy. Almost a year since the launch of my book I’m back on the road and it feels great. Just back from the Manly Writers Festival where I met so many wonderful people and inspirational new authors. Young doctors Sara Arachchi and Jumaana gave me hope that the world might be OK after all. Off to Newcastle Festival next week for some more hope and inspiration #mwfestival #authorinspiration
When Blanche D’Alpuget and Jeremy Fernandez ask for a selfie with their favourite author what can you say? #manlywf25 #manlywritersfestival @manlywritersfestival #authorlife
• Thrilled to share that I'll be on stage at @generation_women_aus on March 26! Join me at @howler for an original story on the theme ~ My SHEro; Stories of Female Role Models, Mentors and the Women who Inspire Us'
Would love to see some familiar faces in the crowd.
Pretty excited to get this email from Maddy my Publicist at Text this week. All the more reason to put SSS on your Gift List this Christmas. Hi Jo!
We’ve just spotted SSS in the Good Reading ‘best biographies/memoirs of 2024’ list! Also get this—right there with Helen Garner. That’s pretty bloody exciting.
You can see it in the link here: .au/article/best-biographies-memoirs-of-2024/
Compare the Pair. Both are the same age. Both wrote and published their first book in their 60's. Both had careers in adverting and honed their writing skills as copywriters. Both books were inspired by the misdeeds of men. Both were critically acclaimed and publicly well received. The difference is that Bonnie Garmus has sold 7 million copies of Lessons in Chemistry. While I have sold 5000 copies of Suddenly Single at Sixty. That's not even bad by Australian standards, but I have a mission to 'Bridge the Gap' people. And Christmas is coming!
So lovely to see a familiar face in the crowd at Mornington Library on Friday. Thanks for coming Susan. It was great to catch up. And so much to catch up on!
Just letting you know I will be giving a talk at Mornington Library this Friday the 22nd November at 11am. The library supplied this picture, perhaps suggesting that if my talk is rubbish there's a handy bin to put it in!
