This will be the first workshop that Ray and I co-teach. It explores the common ground between Meihuaquan and Subtle Practice, as both are rooted in qi. We have been learning from each other’s practices for several years, and recently we arrived at a clearer understanding of how we can collaborate to design a workshop together. Please join us this Sunday!
"Qi Training through Meihuaquan (Plum Flower Fist)"
This class introduces the foundational principles of Meihuaquan (Plum Flower Fist) through an integrated approach to movement, somatic awareness, and qi cultivation.
Rather than focusing solely on muscular strength or external technique, Meihuaquan emphasizes the cultivation of jing (physical essence), qi (vital energy), and shen (spiritual energy), supporting a holistic integration of body and mind.
Participants will be introduced to the foundational Five Stances of Meihuaquan, which help cultivate grounding, strength, and the circulation of qi. The class also includes qi-related somatic exercises that focus on relaxation, opening internal space, and preparing the bodymind for practice.
Through guided exploration, participants will integrate the Five Stances with simple movement materials and improvisational practices, allowing awareness and energy to expand from the inside out. The class offers an experiential introduction to the embodied principles of Meihuaquan.
This class focuses on health and wellness and is suitable for adults of all fitness levels. It is open as well to martial arts practitioners interested in exploring ancient health concepts that they may not be familiar with.
Day: Saturday May 2, 1pm to 3pm
Location: St Mary's Anglican Church Upper Hall
3337 15th Avenue, Regina
Cost: $40 / person for non-members.
Meihuaquan Members: $20
Note: Those facing financial barriers can donate on a sliding scale
Please forward this message to anyone who might be interested. It will be a fun workshop indeed.

My work, An End Is Another Beginning, will be presented as part of On Cue’s RISER program. It is a collective improvisation performance based on Subtle Practice, a heart/mind approach I have developed, inspired by the Daoist philosophy of qi.
I am very pleased to be performing alongside Heather Cameron, Traci Foster, Shannon Holmes @dr.shannon.holmes.voice , Tessa Rae Kuz @thebiomystic , and Jon Vaughn @jon_vaughn_ . It is a privilege to work with such excellent artists.
I would especially like to thank On Cue Performance Hub @oncueregina , MacKenzie Art Gallery @mackenzie.art.gallery , and SK Arts @saskarts for their generous support of this project.

The Subtle Practice Workshop is coming to its final session this Sunday, March 29, 1–3 pm, at the MacKenzie Art Gallery. In this session, we will expand our subtle awareness from within to experience a holistic connection with others and the surrounding environment, exploring how connection can arise naturally in an ego-free state.
Many thanks to On Cue Performance Hub @oncueregina , MacKenzie Art Gallery @mackenzie.art.gallery , and Dance Saskatchewan @dancesaskatchewan for their generous support in bringing together a wonderful group of participants and making the workshop run so smoothly.
This Sunday, March 22, 1-3pm, in the Subtle Practice Workshop, we are going to explore how to improvise freely. The session will focus on revealing our unconscious confinements layer by layer through improvisation practices and reflective writing. See you there!
Many thanks to On Cue Performance Hub @oncueregina , MacKenzie Art Gallery @mackenzie.art.gallery , and Dance Saskatchewan @dancesaskatchewan for supporting the workshop.
In this Sunday’s Subtle Practice Workshop (March 15), we will go through a process of releasing the ego to reveal the essence of the self. Building on the previous two classes of Daoist-inspired somatic exercises, this session is key to unfolding important self-realizations, preparing us to enter the beginning stage of free improvisation in the later sessions.
With thanks to On Cue Performance Hub @oncueregina , MacKenzie Art Gallery @mackenzie.art.gallery , and Dance Saskatchewan @dancesaskatchewan
The Subtle Practice Workshop continues this Sunday, March 8, 1–3 pm, at MacKenzie Art Gallery’s Salon Space (2nd floor).
Each session explores a different theme while remaining interconnected:
Session 1: Exploration of Internal Space through Energy Sources (March 1)
Session 2: Four In-between Consciousness States and Motivations (March 8)
Session 3: Continuous Transformation of the Self: Intention-Releasing Process (March 15)
Session 4: Subtle Awareness & Emergence in Free Improvisation (March 22)
Session 5: Holistic Tuning in Collective Improvisation (March 29)
We had a wonderful time in the first session last week. I hope to see returning participants continue the journey and welcome new participants to join us this week.
I feel very lucky and grateful to have the great support of three organizations. On Cue Performance Hub @oncueregina has supported my workshop as part of their Season 2025/2026 and partnered with MacKenzie Art Gallery for my Subtlety project. MacKenzie Art Gallery @mackenzie.art.gallery has kindly provided a comfortable in-kind space and resources for facilitating the workshop, and Dance Saskatchewan @dancesaskatchewan has generously funded the workshop.
The Subtle Practice Workshop will start from this Sunday, 1-3pm.
