Fuorimargine was born in 2019 as part of the twenty-fifth edition of Autunno Danza as a project to support emerging creativity to then consolidate as a Centre for Dance and Performing Arts Production in Sardinia in 2022 with ministerial recognition.
Alter, an artist’s book edited by Laura Farneti, who has been following the activities of Fuorimargine for years with her photos, and Subtitle, the communication studio responsible for the visual identity of the Centre, was born to narrate these first three years of life.
“This book is a collection of scraps. Personal notes on what I documented for work. I took the dancers’ suggestions, the space we occupied together, them with their light bodies beyond the ordinary, me with all the gravity of my equipment and posture as a spectator. In the background, buildings that were once productive, monuments old and not ancient, devoted to repetitive actions, producers of finished objects.” - Laura Farneti

This summer we were delighted to work on the artistic editorial project ALTER / Residenze 2019-2023. It was a challenge to put images of performers exploring architectures in the confines of a book format. How do you continue the movement, how do you express the matter? How do we invite the reader to look again, from a different point of view? Working closely with the photographer Laura Farneti we thought about weight, touch, up, down, pauses, repetitions, above and beyond the linear succession of images.
