Bambu Indah Residence Visual for @ibukubali . Here we had an unusual opportunity from one of the most respected architects researching bamboo. The most challenging part of this project was translating and mimicking real bamboo so it looks lifelike, not just "the generic bamboo texture you've seen online." We were informed and educated by the team about the bamboo itself, how it bends, the radius, and how the bamboo joints behave. This knowledge ensured that we could simulate it truthfully in CG with accuracy. The organic form of the building also created a challenge, as the roof had to align with its characteristics. In the real world, this would be built piece by piece with exceptional craftsmanship, so we had to find a way to replicate that process in 3D. At the end of the day, the real-world application of how it is built matters, so the CG communicates it as the real thing, not the other way around. Do you agree? . The software used were Blender Cycles and Adobe Photoshop. . Stone Hut . Some time ago, I joined an architectural competition organized by @notahotel_official , with a project site located on Yakushima. During my initial research, I discovered that the island is often associated with the visual inspiration behind Princess Mononoke by Studio Ghibli. Rewatching the film as an adult, I began to understand its depth more clearly. Beyond its visual beauty, the story reveals a profound tension between human advancement and the preservation of nature, raising a fundamental question of whether progress can truly exist without erasing the legends embedded within the landscape. This question became the foundation of my design exploration. Yakushima carries a rare sense of reverence, where forests, moss, stones, and shifting light create an atmosphere that feels both ancient and alive. Designing within such a context requires sensitivity and restraint. Our proposal responds by embedding itself into the terrain, conceived as a mound of piled rock that reads as an extension of the natural topography. The architecture becomes a form of artificial geology, blending into its surroundings so that human intervention remains present yet subdued. Through this approach, architecture is framed not as dominance but as respect. Materials are grounded and elemental, while modern construction techniques allow the structure to appear as though it has always belonged to the site. Advancement is expressed not through spectacle, but through subtlety and integration. Ultimately, the project suggests that progress and preservation can coexist, with architecture acting as a mediator that supports human presence while allowing the quiet mythology of Yakushima to endure. . Verdant Coast . This project was a joy to work on, an exploration driven purely by research, aimed at pushing Blender beyond its role as a complementary tool and positioning it as a primary design instrument. What makes this process unique is Blender’s ability to bridge parametric design and organic modeling. Designing while freely roaming the scene feels almost like playing god with the environment, shaping, testing, and evolving space in real time. It’s one of the most rewarding experiences as a designer, to explore, create, and iterate so intuitively, without friction. . The architectural visualization was made by Subflux. Lately, we’ve seen an overflow of CG videos everywhere, from simple fun clips to stunning architectural visualizations that push the craft to new levels. At the same time, we’ve come across professional hospitality films that not only highlight architecture beautifully but also carry this warm, earthy, almost portrait-like tone. Both sit in the “professional” category, yet the way they deliver emotion feels entirely different. That got us thinking, can a fully CG workflow still carry the same soul and subtle emotion found in handcrafted work? We started digging into what makes those manual productions feel so genuine. One major clue lies in how real cameras behave in the physical world, something digital tools rarely capture naturally. So we studied the nuances of real optics and began simulating them within our digital pipeline. What came out was something deliberately imperfect, yet deeply human. The images felt tangible, textured, and alive, the kind of atmosphere you often see in the best hospitality films that truly connect with viewers. .
