DJ Scotch Bonnet is the alias of Tokyo-born, Berlin-based producer Shigeru Ishihara, also known as DJ Scotch Egg. Emerging from Brighton’s noise and chiptune underground in the early 2000s, he built a cult reputation with breakcore made from hacked Game Boys and feedback-driven rigs. Over the years his sound has expanded into dub, hip hop, industrial textures and bass culture, always marked by intensity and restless experimentation.
Ishihara’s output is defined by constant reinvention and collaboration. He formed Devilman with

@hitomikiki , and played bass and electronics for the reformed
@seefeel.signals on
@warprecords With
@waqwaqkingdom again with Hitomi, he fused Japanese matsuri rhythms with futuristic tribal bass. As DJ Scotch Bonnet he released the Live Wire EP with New York MC Sensational twisting hip hop into distorted, explosive form.
Residencies in Uganda and Indonesia have further broadened his scope. Under the Scotch Rolex moniker he created Tewari, a landmark collaboration with
@mcyallah and
@lord_spikeheart_777 on Nyege Nyege’s
@hakuna.kulala label. As Scotch Sambal, recorded in Yogyakarta, he combined gabber, funkot, koplo and psychedelic Indonesian rhythms for Yes No Wave Music. He also co-founded
@small_but_hard , extending his DIY ethos into publishing and art.
At MULTICORE Ishihara returns to the DJ Scotch Bonnet name for a live performance on the Multitude sound system. His set channels two decades of invention into a collision of distortion, bass pressure and raw energy, built for the scale and force of a true sound system.
