Finally started tuning the sound. It’s been a humbling experience to say the least. A whole new world and language I can’t wait to dive into.
.
Also dusted off my record bag after nearly 5 years. This crate still had the records from my last set at Broken City patio. Mad!
.
Looking forward to selectin’ this next one.

When I first set out to build the sound, I always had the vision of running it in a traditional Operator / Selecta style and fashion. Paying homage to the roots of true soundsystem culture.
.
The part of the sound I’m most excited to share has got to be the control tower. This rack represents an enormous amount of thought and research over the years. Custom Theatrixx power distro, Furman power conditioning, Linea Research Class D amplifiers, Total Louspeaker Management by the heavyweights RC1, a few rack toys courtesy of JB Audio Units, and at the heart of any reggae soundsystem - a preamp from none other than Sage Sound.
.
Words cannot describe just how ecstatic I was when man like Sage resumed building preamps after he closed his doors in 2021 due to COVID supply chain issues. Sage’s works are highly regarded among the soundsystem community and something I’ve always dreamt of having in the rack.
.
Been playing around with the preamp the past 6 months and it’s an amazing piece of hardware that has really opened new doors and challenges for me to overcome. Though it’ll complicate the overall sound system alignment, this preamp colours the music in a truly special way. Not surgically flat - rather a natural mystic that allows the Operator to move and manipulate the sound in a way that creates presence, tension and impact. The instrument of an old school Soundman to make the music come alive.
.
It’s not just about playing loud. It’s about the delicate relationship between the selecta, operator and audience. One that requires trust, awareness and respect. The hope is to create a different format of nightlife - A soundsystem session.

Building cables and picking up a few skills I didn’t ask for along the way..
.
Mixture of 120/240v screw terminal power cables for the rack and distro and soldering some 4 core audio runs. Maybe around 450lbs of raw cable all said and done.
Montréal’s @eric_shigero brings straight sound system weight to the series - lurky business blending into hip-hop and 140, loaded with exclusives and his own unreleased work. Co-founder of the hand-built @hifive_av soundsystem and a fixture in Eastern Canada’s bass scene since 2010, his selections run deep.
“Straight sound system pressure with a hint of gangster energy... unreleased projects from dear artists, timeless classics, and a hint of Canadian weapons.”

Lining the skram rear chambers with deadening foam and hatches with rubber gaskets.
.
Also finally cracked the code with interlocking feet placement on all the cabinets after encountering some screws and drill bits I twisted off during assembly. One of the not so pretty parts of the build that could have been avoided with a bit more planning on my part… It was an absolute brain melt but finally found a solution.

Happy holidays Kings and Queens
