Weeks posts
Nick Beadle @stwstudio recently spent some time at Blimeys, capturing the beauty of the new build and its stunning surroundings on the Otago Peninsula. Over the coming weeks, I'll be sharing some of his incredible photos. Come stay with us at our cosy retreat this autumn❀️

COAST COLLECTION- Blackhead Polarizing, is a word to describe the reaction to this image, for some their perspective on the quarry influences how they feel about what is visible here. Conversely we've always viewed it as an image representing 'what is' at a place and point in time and that feels valuable. What do you see in this image? Do you see the beauty or do you see the beast? #dunedinnz #nzphotography

Over the last couple of years some of the images we've connected with the most personally have been the ones where the environment is shrouded in mist or fog. There's something delicately beautiful about these misty pathways, the light is more filtered, the dustiness in motion, moving and blurring into the surrounds. This photograph was taken at Aramoana.

COAST COLLECTION - Boulder Beach The highcliff track has become one of our favourite areas to visit. The full track is more on the challenging side with a steep & steady uphill return climb on a fairly 'sheep track' kind of track. The first five minutes of the walk (parking on mcmeeking road) meaners on a wide flattish grassy pathway beside old stone rock walls, huge boulders dotted with round lichen patterns adorn the hills and it provides the most incredible views out across st clair in one direction then down on the wildy beautiful Boulder Beach in the other. If you have visitors or older relatives (that aren't up to hiking) the drive up plus the first five mins of walking is an easy and beautiful way to show them some of the regions scenic coastline. The track is closed between November and February for penguin breeding but well worth a visit outside of these times.

COAST COLLECTION - Keyhole Rock One of the images that means the most to us is this one, taken in 2020 on the first day we were able to venture out after the lockdown No.1 During this first lockdown, uncertainty and apprehension swirled in the atmosphere as many faced the unknown across various parts of life. What didn't change, the rhythm of the land, the sun coming up, the cleansing of rain, the motion of seasons sparkling with hope. This moment at Aramoana was light, it felt like the land and its people exhaling a collective sigh of relief as we stepped into a new day. #dunedinnz #nzphotography #sony

COAST collection - Broad Bay We spend a lot of time walking beside the harbour, and love the lines of the coastal landscape. Drawn to the tonal simplicity in this image and the way the light places emphasis on the curvature of the land almost creating a silhouette affect. The coastline in this area is beautiful and continually changing, a great place to blow the cob webs out. #dunedinnz #nzphotography #sonynz

COAST collection The last couple of years have been challenging, uncertain, and at times tumultuous. We've found the practice of getting out and about in the great outdoors whenever we can more important than ever. Grounding and restorative, somehow the simplicity of connection with the land, the ocean, is renewing. We've been collecting images from these outings along the coast highlighting the simple beauty of the landscape that surrounds us. #sony #dunedinnz #nzphotography

Glowing windows on a dark evening, The Swan on Bath St has become a unique location for private functions like this one captured recently from the outside looking in. The warm cosy atmosphere, and nooks and crannies of the floor plan make for perfect conversation corners. After an action packed few years of ownership during the covid period, the swans entrepreneurial owners Sarah and Patrick Hussey, who also own and operate two other hospitality businesses nearby have placed it on the market as they move into new ventures. Nick popped in last week to shoot the bustling morning vibe in the cafe & courtyard plus the significant updates that have been made to the restaurant kitchen and facilities to provide visual documentation for the sale listing. We appreciate working alongside local business owners like Sarah and Patrick, providing imagery to support and document the story of their business as they transition from one phase into another. @the_swan_cafe_bar
