The house is defined by a central pool flanked by two vaulted corridors punctuated by a series of arches, facing each other. One indoor, with museum style wooden benches, and the other, outdoor, with concrete benches. The house is experienced through these corridors based on the season and the time of the year. The pool also helps in evaporative cooling and combined with the vaulted colonnade, creates a comfortable micro-climate for this inner sanctum.

Calçada da Estrela 239 is a 100-year-old building in the historic neighbourhood of Estrela, Lisbon, renovated, restored and reconfigured by Studio Toggle. The design interventions respect the building’s historic character and ornamental detail while introducing a contemporary spatial logic — reorganising the plan for efficiency, livability, and relevance to the way we inhabit space today.
