Artistes exposé•es : @studiosimonschubert @gideon_kiefer @ellen.keusen @venetis_christos Lucie Beppler @katrinbremermann @karine.rougier et Oskar Holweck — 🇬🇧 Focus on the gallery Martin Kudlek — Sector General The gallery highlights the work of Simon Schubert, an artist born in 1976 in Cologne, whose universe draws on architecture and the language of space. 🇬🇧 Simon Schubert - Nominee for the 19th @FondationDetFGuerlain Contemporary Drawing Prize “We find both Simon Schubert’s drawings and folded paper works quite extraordinary.” - Daniel and Florence Guerlain Working between immaculate white paper and dense graphite blacks, Simon Schubert creates interior architectures shaped by absence: corridors, staircases, closed doors, shafts of light - spaces emptied of human presence where light and structure become the true subjects. Alongside his graphite drawings, Schubert has developed a singular technique of folding paper, invented during his studies in sculpture. Without using a pencil, he creates depth, perspective and form through the crease itself — drawing that emerges, structures space, then dissolves back into whiteness. Literature and philosophy underpin his practice, from Samuel Beckett to Leibniz and Deleuze, informing his vision of a world folded in on itself. In his drawings, subtle lateral views recall Vermeer or Vilhelm Hammershøi, while recent works introduce colour in restrained boreal tones — “spatial mirrors”, as Schubert calls them, reflecting both place and perception. 📌 Works by all three nominees will be presented at the Salon du Dessin 🗓 25–30 March 2026 - Palais Brongniart, Paris 🏆 Winner announced on 26 March 2026 Images : Untitled (Light through Window), 2025, graphite on paper, 70 x 50 cm. This is a stop motion film of an edition (actually single works) I did for the Unikat Edition series of the @PArtfoundation in 2010. With the help of architect Joerg Dalichau I designed a large house with a CAD program. Then I decided for 100 views of the interieur and made paperfoldings of the views. After that I took photos of the works and combined them to this film. If you look carefully, you can see a shadow or a figure, which seems to run in front. It is actually a blank space where I left out the folding. The film is screened at my exhibition „Lichtlinien“ at @brunhildemollstiftung in Düsseldorf until the 31st of January 2026. . . . . #studiosimonschubert #simonschubert #contemporarydrawing #stopmotionfilm #paperfolding #brunhildemollstiftung
