Shelter
31x43
cotton silk
This place is all kinds of things: careful, haphazard, soft, rough. Layers and mixed intensions suspended in a quietly solid, symmetrical space.
Refuge

Thinking about the circular nature of life, how we find ourselves repeating traditions, filling familiar roles, creating the connective tissue that links the generations. It’s always round, like a wheel that keeps turning. It’s what holds us together.
Haven

“Habitat” was my prompt for this piece, and here you see my exploration of that theme - the way we build the world we inhabit, the careful creation of family and home, the structure that enfolds us and forms us, protects us and makes us what we are.
The Lookout 1, 2, 3, 4
All 60”x60”, approx
Cotton, twill, linen, silk, synthetic
The Lookout is a quadriptych and is meant to be seen in a larger grouping. Each is a snapshot of the forest trail—stones, moss, lichen, earth, and leaves. To capture the forest’s color, texture, and depth, I used deep, earthy hues in cotton, linen and silk, with touches of gold lamé for luster. The composition is intricately pieced and densely quilted, resulting in a richly layered surface that nods to the rough, quilted character of the forest floor.

What is a quilt?
Here's part of an artist talk I gave in March 2024 at Koffer Arts, part of the show called Decade, curated by Davis Liss. I'm talking about my piece "Late in the Evening, part of the Cities and Suburbs series.

Intro to Improv & Inspiration graduating class! Two classes, four days: sketching, paper collage, fabric collage, experimental first steps into improvisation in textile art. Also: exploring sources of inspiration. We did a lot, we learned a lot, and we had great fun doing it.
Karin Østergaard hosted at her wonderful gallery/studio space/store @thypatchwork close to Thisted, Denmark.
Fabulous!
