Olafur, Sebastian and Studio Olafur Eliasson designed the facades for the Harpa Reykjavik Concert Hall and Conference Centre in Iceland before founding Studio Other Spaces. The structure is based on a modular, space-filling structure called the quasi brick which was developed by Einar Thorsteinn. #StudioOtherSpaces #OlafurEliasson #SebastianBehmann #HenningLarsen #HarpaConcerthall #architecture #design #geometry #quasibrick #studioolafureliasson

For a new project in Rügen, we are collaborating with @studio__susanne_brorson to strengthen a network of bioregional architecture by bringing together local actors, craftspeople, experts, and start ups. In support of this effort, Studio Susanne Brorson is conducting extensive material research into locally available bio based and geo based materials on the island. Image 5, featuring material sample by @planterial.de #studiootherspaces #susannebrorson #rugen #germany #architecture #sustainability

’Compostable Altar’ explores how biomaterial research and 3D printing can turn seasonal food waste into sculptural forms that nourish the soil. Designed to be planted and naturally decompose, these pieces support microbial life, improve growing conditions, and attract pollinators, blurring the line between art, agriculture, and ecology. The project was developed with mentorship from @studiootherspaces . Watch the full video through the link in bio. The video shows how openings at Fjordenhus are generated by subtracting space from the building’s volume. Through these subtractions balconies, interior rooms, shape of windows and doors emerge directly from the cylindrical geometry. #studiootherspaces #olafureliasson #sebastianbehmann #fjordenhus #HQ #interiordesign #vejle #denmark

The video shows the roof terrace at Fjordenhus, shaped as a circular opening in the brick volume. As the sun moves, the heliostat captures its light and directs it onto the sculpture at the center, from where the daylight is distributed into the conference room below. Fjordenhus is conceived as a fully integrated work, with everything designed specifically for the building, from furniture and lighting to elevators and architectural details. Commissioned by Kirk Kapital, it was the first building by Olafur Eliasson and Sebastian Behmann. Since they began designing Fjordenhus, their architectural work has been led through their office for art and architecture, Studio Other Spaces.

The roof terrace at Fjordenhus opens to the sky as a circular cut in the brick volume. A heliostat follows the movement of the sun and directs daylight onto the sculpture at the center, which then distributes the light to the boardroom below. Ilulissat Icefjord Park, a proposal by Studio Other Spaces, envisioned a series of pathways and public spaces along Greenland’s UNESCO World Heritage Icefjord. Designed to guide visitors through the dramatic Arctic landscape, the park aimed to heighten awareness of the visible effects of climate change and create space for reflection. The Ice Void building is literally formed with ice harvested from calving glaciers, embodying the accelerated melting of the Greenland ice sheet caused by rising global temperatures. As glaciers retreat and ecosystems shift, the project stands as a reminder of our shared responsibility for the planet. #climatecrisis #climateaction #raisinghope #raisinghopeconference #studiootherspaces #olafureliasson #sebastianbehmann #greenland

The brickwork at Fjordenhus. Its colours come from bricks fired at varying temperatures, giving each brick a unique texture and tone. This photo is taken near the water, where the shades graduate toward green to mirror the surface, while higher up they shift toward blue.
