Why do some studios consistently produce great work, while others don’t? It’s not talent. It’s how the work gets made. The decisions behind it. The standards. The way ideas are developed, challenged, and carried through to execution. Clinton, Brad and Miné’s workshop, Drawing Inspiration, focuses on that process. Not as theory, but as something you can actually see and understand. How ideas move from rough thinking into resolved work. How small decisions build consistency. How a shared way of working supports both quality and collaboration over time. Because strong work isn’t a one-off. It’s the result of a process that holds up. If you’ve ever wondered what sits behind consistently good creative output, this is where it becomes clear. What breaks first when a creative studio starts to grow? Not the work. The people. The process. The clarity of what made it good in the first place. It’s easy to admire a studio once it’s established. The output. The clients. The consistency. But what you don’t see is what it takes to hold that together over time. Clinton, Brad and Miné’s talk, Building a Creative Studio, pulls that into the open. Not as theory, but as lived experience. What it takes to grow something without losing its edge. How collaboration actually works when it’s long-term. Where things strain, where they fail, and what you have to put in place to keep it all moving. Because studios don’t succeed by accident. They survive through decisions most people never see. If you’ve ever thought about building something of your own, or you’re already inside it and starting to feel the weight of making it work, this is a perspective worth hearing. There’s a generosity to Muti’s work that hits before you’ve named it. The worlds are full without being crowded. The characters carry weight without explanation. The colour doesn’t just set a mood — it builds an entire logic, one that holds across a frame, a campaign, a surface, a screen. You get the sense that every decision was made by people who understood not just what they were making, but what it needed to feel like to whoever encountered it. That’s what separates illustration at this level from decoration. It isn’t about filling space beautifully. It’s about building something the eye wants to live inside — where the texture has intention, the composition earns its rest, and the narrative is already moving before a single word is read. Clinton Campbell, Miné Day, and Brad Hodgskiss have spent over a decade developing that kind of fluency at Studio Muti. Not a house style. A shared sensibility — one that runs through editorial work, animation, branding, and surface design alike, and remains immediately recognisable no matter the format or brief. That’s the result of building a studio where craft and culture are treated as the same thing. That’s what they’re bringing to TDC 2026. Since 2011, three people have been quietly building something extraordinary in Cape Town. Clinton Campbell, Miné Day, and Brad Hodgskiss are the Creative Directors and co-founding partners of Studio Muti — a multidisciplinary illustration and design studio that has grown from a small partnership into one of the most recognisable creative studios working in illustration today. Their practice spans illustration, animation, lettering, surface design, editorial work, and branding, developed over more than a decade of building a studio culture that is as deliberate as the work it produces. What Muti has built isn’t just a portfolio. It’s a point of view — one that is immediately recognisable across formats, contexts, and scales. All three bring a practice rooted in illustration-led thinking, with hands-on creative involvement that runs through everything the studio makes. Together, they represent something rarer than talent: a long-term creative partnership, built from the ground up in Cape Town, that has only grown stronger over time. At TDC 2026, Clinton, Miné, and Brad bring a talk and workshop exploring what it actually takes to build a creative studio that lasts.
