At the southernmost tip of the Netherlands, nestled within a five-star retreat, lies the two-Michelin-star restaurant Create. Three circular forms: the sun, moon and earth, anchor the interior, connected by a suspended tree trunk above. A quiet dialogue between nature, craft and gastronomy. Photography @maarten_willemstein

As one of the landmarks of the World Heritage listed old town of Amsterdam the National Maritime Museum showcases one of the largest and most notable maritime collections in the world. This and strong links to today’s society and the future inspired Studio Linse to a graphic and modern design approach that reorganises the welcoming areas. Lights, dynamic screens and clear lines inviting the guests, directing them to the shop and the main square with its famous glass roof. Glass covering and asymmetric lines in the counters echo the mystical surface of the seas while huge dynamic screens follow the monumental arcades to inform and direct to the different wind directions of the building and the different experiences the museum offers. Studio Linse’s design for the National Maritime Museum respectfully connects the rich past and present. Warm wood reclaimed from old ship masts and soft, organic shapes in the furniture subtly refer to the ever-moving water. A contemporary interpretation of heritage, where visitors can pause, reflect and enjoy the museum’s timeless atmosphere. Photography @maarten_willemstein
