Carl Cheng: Nature Never Loses has been selected for Most Beautiful Swiss Books 2025. Nature Never Loses is the first major publication to survey six decades of work by Carl Cheng, whose prescient and genre-defying practice has long explored the evolving relationship between technology, ecology, and human systems. The book accompanies the exhibition of the same name organized by The Contemporary Austin. The project brought together a publication, a traveling exhibition, and an exhibition booklet developed as a shared editorial framework around Cheng’s work. Developed through close collaboration with curator Alex Klein, Studio Lin worked not only as graphic designer but also as a thought partner in shaping the structure and organization of the material across both the book and the exhibition environment. “Everything is in the Process of Becoming Something Else” by MOS Architects for the 5th International Architecture Exhibition’s Electa Book Pavilion. A set of 12 oversized books constructed with materials inspired by Carta Azurra, a blue paper that nods to both Venetian art history and the city’s own status as a collection of islands. 11 books hold pop-up models, with a 12th book containing text and worm’s eye drawings for each of the pop-up models. We’re looking to hire either an intern or junior designer, depending on experience and fit. Junior designer candidates should have at least one year of real-world design experience. The ideal person is well-rounded, with strong skills across publication design, web design, and identity systems. A strong typographic eye and a strong match with Studio Lin’s design sensibility are a must. This would begin as internship or freelance/project-based support, with the possibility of becoming full-time for the right fit. Remote work is okay. “Nature Never Loses” surveys over 60 years of artist Carl Cheng’s work. Presented chronologically, each project’s images are organized into groupings and laid out like columns of text with one caption at the bottom of each image stack. Carl Cheng’s voice is present throughout the book in a custom cut of Courier starting from the cover. Studio Lin also designed the exhibition that opened in Austin and has toured to the Institute of Contemporary Art, University of Pennsylvania, Philadelphia; Bonnefanten, Maastricht; Museum Tinguely, Basel; and the Institute of Contemporary Art, Los Angeles (2024–2027). Public Spaces by @mmmosarchitects published by @park_books “Public space is constantly changing, shifting, never quite fixed. It is formed by laws, by regulations, by private ownership, and by city management. Public spaces are influenced both by the people who oversee them and by those who use them. And because of this, public spaces are never neutral. In Public Spaces, NY, Michael Meredith and Hilary Sample document and analyze Manhattan’s parks, streets, community gardens, privately owned public spaces, recreation areas, waterfronts, and cemeteries. Their book seeks to understand their design, construction, and management, and provides detailed drawings of both the spaces themselves and speculative illustrations about how the public uses the spaces. “Carl Cheng, Nature Never Loses” exhibition and booklet design. The first major show of Chinese-American artist; Carl Cheng, curated by Alex Klein. First exhibited at @contemporaryatx , then @icaphiladelphia , and currently at @bonnefanten , later traveling to Tinguely and then Los Angeles. We wanted to tie the design of the booklet and exhibition as closely as possible. A physical and graphic numbering system, with wall texts and image collages printed on adhesive phototex. The booklet provides detailed information about the show that is better suited to archiving then extended wall labels. Booklets printed entirely on newsprint giving a per unit cost of about 60 cents per 20 page full color booklet.

Essay in English and Spanish illustrated by a thumbnail index of photos from the book. “At first glance, these photos give the impression of an exquisite corpse, sculptures made with parts that are added without a rational order (...)
