Sophie Lenain

After over 20 years working almost exclusively with many of the UK’s top 100 residential interior design studios, now there is Studio Lenain, me - Sophie Lenain - working from a tiny shed at the end of our garden (right next to the trampoline! 🤣) No assistants, no nannies for our three small kids - although a husband who shares at least 50% of the family load, while working full-time himself, plus our excellent local primary school. And so I feel particularly proud of this wonderful, totally turnkey project, completed earlier this year. Everything - furniture, furnishings, artwork, antiques and accessories - was sourced from scratch (with just a couple of exceptions), so the paper trail was huge. I was lucky to have a lovely, hands-on client and a brilliant team with @studio_mcleod and @no3projects ensuring everything ran smoothly. Grateful to incredibly supportive clients - past and present - who enable me to design beautiful projects (a world away from ‘The Shed’) making my working life so enjoyable and rewarding. Next stop: Bordeaux! 🇫🇷 We’re relocating from London to Bordeaux city this August - hugely exciting, but also slightly terrifying (I’m a Londoner born and bred! ❤️🇬🇧) Look us up if you’re in the area! 🤗 I’ll continue working on English projects from there and hope to take on a few French ones too. We designed this bespoke joinery to do lots of things - to take lighting, to house a secret door, a subwoofer and other AV equipment, kids’ craft stuff, oh and THAT drum 🥁 💕 we found at @sunburyantiques . All painted in with the room in Steel V @paintandpaperlibrary with a lovely bit of @soanebritain wallpaper behind the shelves.

Timeless entrance hall. Warm natural stone, jute, alabaster, and oak. The original cornice was uncovered beneath layers of paint. Huge thanks to our incredible decorating team for their meticulous restoration work @no3projects

This laundry room on the first floor really goes to work. Buttery yellow on the cabinets, Hay V by one of our favourites @paintandpaperlibrary , and thanks to darling @apponyidesign for the 🍫 floor prod, I could have that everywhere. Had to show the other side of the room as it’s just so blummin’ practical (which you know gets me every time). Separaretely controlled underfloor heating, discreet flat panelled rad when in need of a boost, ventilated extraction and that tiled wall with fold away heavy duty drying racks making laundry a breeze.
